Only the other day, Bays Household, wo saw threo large, able-bodied boys, lounging about the house, not knowing what to do with themselves, while their mother, alone, tired and pale, was trying to do the work of a large family and company. Not a boy's work to help about the house? Why not? Is there anything about washing dishes that will injure him, or that ho can not learn to do well? or about making beds, or sweeping, or setting the table, or washing, or ironing, or cooking a plain meal of victuals? On tho contrary, there is much to benefit him In such work, tho most important of which is to gain the idea that it Is not manly to let tho "weaker vessel" carryall the tho burdens, when it is possible for strong young hands to' help. Most hoys would gladly help in the house If they wero asked to do so, and wero taught how to do tho work properly. Many a smart boy wants to help his tired mother, but doesn't know how, beyond bringing in the wood and water. That done, she tells him to go and play, while she plods wearily on. Not a boy's work? For shame! It is a posttivo harm to a boy's moral ehaiacter to allow him to think it right for him to be idle whitb ids mother is stag gering under her burdens. Let tho boys help, mid those who can't get help "for love or money" will see their troubles disappear. A (iOOll IlKUINMNCl. The prompt and satisfactory or ganization of tho Houses of the Oregon legislature on tho llrst day of tho session, augurs well for good work. Of course personal prefer ences had to be, in some cases, laid aside, but it is lefreshing to note the fact that all wero able to rise .above personal disappointments and work together for tho general good. Harmonious action prompted by the one desire to promote tho gener al good chaiaeterles all tho pui poseHofthe luoiiihort) as voiced by word and action so tar. Taken as a body tho membership take high rank in point of ability and high moral worth. Every Indication points to a speedy settlement of the U. S. Senatorial question in a way highly honorablo and eminently satisfactory to tho people by tho re-election of Hon. J. N. Dolph by tho unanimous vote of the republican members, thus giving him seventy two votes. Dime museum proprietors have been most persistent in their efforts to secure him for exhibition, but the parents refuse to give their consent.
