of four elephants standing on the
back of a tortoise, maintaining that
tho tortoise rested on tho universal

ceived tho sphericity ot tho earth,

less centre of their universe puzzled

cartli, resting on nothing, and sup

Tho venerable Uede, who lived in
tho eighth century, regarded the
earth as a floating egg, and this no
tion lasted many centuries. These
crude thoories have emtio down to a
surprisingly recent period ho much
n tiling of to-day is our modern
science.

chased; also to retain hides of all
cattle slaughtered for a period of
thirty days, open to inspection by
all persons who wish to examine

of tho continuance of the Railroad
Commission, believing their services
havo been beneficial to the State of
Oregon.

erty ot the M. E. church, South, We
request the legislature to discon
tinue all appropriations to said in

circulating air is best, hints of living under

A VEGETABLE TOOTH BRUSH.
