Livingston, sheriff of Grant county,
making the following statement and
inquiry:

S A FAREWELL PARTY. A pleasant
farewell party was given Miss Lucy
Dencer, at her nome four and a half
4 miles south of this city. Saturday ev
ening. MLss Dencer expects soon to
4 leave for Sprague, Washington, whera
her brothers reside. The evening,
wlch was a very pleasant one and
that will be long remembered by. Miss
Dencer and her friends, was spent in
games, singing anj social converse,

the lawn and ice cream and cake was

T. A. Llvesley, a Salem bujer who
also grows hops, was seen nt th de
pot yesterday afternoon, going to Ger
vais on ' the Koseburg mall. The In
dications In oil of the yards point to
an increased yield over that of last
year, which was about 64,000 bab,"
said Mr. Llvesley. There n.ay be a
yard here and there frt-ra which e.nly
a light crop win be harvested, but. In
the majority of such Instances an ex
ceptionally heavy crop was last yar
raised. Yard that yielded a light
crop last yr-ar will generally produce
heavily this year. The ht weather

EDUCATIONAL BOARD. The state
board of education will go to Corvallls
tomorrow to attend a meeting of the
board of regents of the Oregon agri
cultural college. Supt. J. H. Acker
man, secretary of the board. Is arrang
ing a new form for the state certifi
cates for teachers. Those provided for
teachers In the pajnV were of large size
and of such a quallity of paper that
the folding of the same would. In a
short time destroy the documents, and
the department was compelled. In
mailing them, to send them rolled
around a piece of round wood to pre
serve them from Injury In the malls;
the cot of forwarding them by mall
being 10 cents each. To avoid this In
future, the department has decided to
have the certlfiate In a different form,
being smaller, and printed on i heavy
bond paper, thus permitting of folding it
without injury to the paper: when the
new certificate Is sent by mall, it will
be placed In an ordinary envelope and
forwarded at a cost of 2 cents for post
age, a material saving to me siaie.
