Foga Eght Apple Valley Items Spice of Apple Valiev by Marilyn Modlne, 722-5637 Aren’t kids wonderful? And they say and do the greatest things. One day we were working outside and my husband was digging a small trench for some reason or other. Our oldest son seemed to be continually in the way. Finally in exasperation his dad asked “Why can't you stay out of the way?” With all the innocence of a child our son answered "Dad, I'm just trying to give you a rest.” Mr. and Mrs. Lloyd Dibble had a busy week. On Monday Mrs. Alma Moore, a long time friend from Payette stopped by for a visit. Also on Monday Ann Hopper, the Dibble's daughter was down from Weiser with her daugh ter Cindy. Rev. Kaptein visited on Friday. On Satur day Mrs. Will Knox brought an apple pie to Mr. and Mrs. Dibble and then made some grape jelly for them. Mrs. Ed Sells was at the Dibble home on Sunday and brought some green beans. Mr. Dibble sends thanks to Mrs. Clint Warren for shutting up his wandering calf while he was at church Sunday. Mrs. Dibble is slightly improved and says she truly appreciates all her visitors and the calls she has received during this time of illness. Visitors at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Waldo Smalley on Wednesday afternoon were Mr. and Mrs. William Anders of Caldwell. On Thursday morning Cecil Evans visited the Smalleys and Rev. Jim Monroe called on them on Thursday after noon. Mrs. Arch Englehardt visi ted Tuesday evening with Mrs. Laura Bale. Mrs. Leo Montague and Mrs. Laura Bale visited Mrs. Ruth Martin of Nampa on Friday afternoon and stopped in Caldwell on the way home to see Mr. and Mrs. Jim Bale and family. On Sunday afternoon Mr. and Mrs. Verl Bishop were Present at a dinner given for the Adrian school teachers and held at the Adrian Pres byterian Church. Mr. and Mrs. Arch Engle hardt went to Nampa this week to visit with Muriel Englehardt. Their son and his wife from Portland were there as well. Sunday visitors in the home of Mr. and Mrs. Alvin Morrison were Mr. and Mrs. Tom Morrison and family of Ontario, Mr. and Mrs. Dan Morrison and family of Parma, and Mr. and Mrs. Fidel Soliz and family of Nyssa. Mr. and Mrs. Cecil Sheppard's son Harold and grandson Timothy from We natchee, Wash, were here for a visit on Saturday. Another son John Sheppard from Ontario was also visiting on Saturday. Mr. and Mrs. Leeland Dewey entertained Sunday with a family dinner honoring those with birthdays during the month. The special guests were Mrs. George Griffin, Leeland Dewey. Niki Dewey, and Mrs. Gary Griffin. Attending the dinner were Mrs. Mary Honey, Mr. and Mrs. George Griffin, Mr. and Mrs. Gary Griffin, Mrs. John Lilly and son J.J., Mr. Ralph Dewey from the Oregon Slope, and Mrs. Dewey from Ontario. Mr. and Mrs. Harold McEwen and daughters from Payette came in the afternoon for refresh ments. Mrs. Dora Nelson visited Mary Honey on Wednesday afternoon. Mr. and Mrs. Emery Rathbun from LaPuente, Calif., have been visiting this week at the Dwight Seward home. On Friday, the Se wards and the Rathbuns were dinner guests of Mr. and Mrs. Carl Gibson of Emmett. On Saturday eve ning they visited Mr. and Mrs. Gary Seward in Nyssa. Mr. and Mrs. Roy Wild from Nyssa, Mrs. Cora Stamm of Nyssa, Mr. and Mrs. Burton Smith from Ontario and Mr. and Mrs. Rathbun enjoyed Sunday dinner at Mr. and Mrs. Dwight Seward’s. Kenny Seward, who lost a portion of his hand in an accident recently, was re leased from the hospital last week. He is doing quite well. This week we welcome a new resident to Apple Valley. Scott James Hisky was born Monday night, October 3. Congratulations to the proud parents, Mr. and Mrs. John Hisky. G > i of the Adrian High Band THESE STUDENTS «re directed by Arthur Gould who took time from their busy schedule to have this shot snapped. The band left Friday, (October 8) for Oregon State University's Band Day in Corvallis. Oregon. The band competed against 14 other bands on Wednesday in plenty of time to plan a birthday party for big sister Dusty who turned five on Saturday. Eight children were present and they had a grand time. Also at the party were Grandpa and Grandma Hisky Mrs. Hisky's sister Julie Henderson from Pocatello arrived Monday night for a visit. On Saturday evening. Mr. and Mrs. Ed Huett of Gold Hill. Oregon, were dinner guests of Mr. and Mrs. Charles Pitman at VIPS Restaurant in Ontario. Mrs. Pitman is recovering nicely from five months of illness. She sends a heartfelt thank you for the cards and messages she received while in the hospital and during convalescence. Mr. and Mrs. Clarence Fritts and Mr. and Mrs. Clarence Tuning traveled to Cascade Sunday to visit Mr. and Mrs. Gerald Denning. They very much enjoyed the ride and found the fall colors to be extremely beautiful. On Friday afternoon Mr. and Mrs. Walter Adams from Caldwell visited with Mr. and Mrs. Tuning. Willow Creek WILLOWCREEK * 1 he Willowcreek CSO met Mon day evening. October 3 at the school. It has been planned by the ways and means committee, that the CSO will have it's annual Fun Night in November. This is their only money making event during the year and something is bought for use at the school. A dinner, carnival with many games and a country cup board will be included in this. Items will be needed for the fish pond and homemade items, produce, baked goods or preserves will be needed for the country cupboard. The 7th and 8th grade room won the room count and the 1st and 2nd grade room won for having the most fathers attending. For the program, Connie DeLong played “Love Story” and "Nadias Theme” on the piano and Laura DeLong played “Shortenin’ Bread" and “My Dog Barks."' Ina Schaffeld introduced her cousin, Wilma Brown. Mal heur County Librarian, who gave a very interesting talk about the Ontario library and about books on Malheur County history. Refresh ments were served at the close of the meeting. Cheerleaders for the War riors were selected last week, by the student body. On the varsity team are Lisa Perkins, Connie DeLong, Ruth and Gloria Burris. The pewee cheerleaders are Joan Schaf feld. Kelleen DeLong and Laura DeLong. The Richard Browns be- came grandparents for the first time on October 4. Their daughter and son-in-law, Charlene and David Hatha way are the parents of a son, David Michael, who weigh ed in at 7 pounds and six ounces. The Pioneer Club ladies held their monthly meeting at Eulalia Curl’s home on October 6. Co-hostesses at the meeting were Grace Stump and Ann Moore, with 16 members attending. Olga Mikkelson conducted the business, in the absence of the president. Final plans were made for the clubs bazaar and rummage sale that will be held on October 20, 21 and 22, at the Odd Fellows Hall in Vale. Hours are from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. each day. The club will also be serving lunch at the farm sale and yard sale at the Harmon Potters on October 22. The Sam Stumps enjoyed a ten-day visit from his sister Mary Hannon from Spearmen Texas, and Mary's daughter Sylvia Fleenor of Sunray, Texas. The Stumps met them at the airport in Boise and took them back to the plane. They went on several sight seeing trips to the mountains, to Skyline Farms and other places, to show their com- pany what our state looks like. The Country Neighbors Home Extension group will meet at Peggy Brown's home on Thursday, October 13. The lesson will be on making flowers out of cloth. 1 tn the C Division and performed in a massed performance during the halftime of the OSU and BYU football game.
