October 7, 1976 Nyssa Gate City Journal, Nyssa, Oregon Page Four 81st Birthday Larry Glenns House Warming Appoximately fifty friends and neighbors descended on the Larry Glenns' Tuesday, September 28 for a house warming in their new home on Route 2, Nyssa. Cake and homemade ice cream were served and there was a money tree. The Glenns wish to thank all those who made the housewarming such a me morable event. LEGION AUXILIARY RHODA LANDRETH OBSERVED her 81st birthday Thursday. September 30. 1976. Her sister-in-law, Mrs. Maude Cooper of Vale spent the day visiting with her. She received a telephone call from her son and daughter-in-law, Verle and Ann Landreth from Portland. That evening Mrs. Landreth enjoyed dinner at the home of her son and his wife. Chuck and Alma Landreth and family. Birthday cake and ice cream were also served. Mrs. Landreth said she had such a happy day, it will be one she wiU always remember. Potato Princess Serves As Fair Representative One of four "Potato Prin cesses" performing public relations chores for the Oregon Potato Commission at the Oregon State Fair in Salem recently, was Kath leen Deffer. daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Fred Deffer, Adrian. Miss Deffer was joined at the fair by representatives of the other three potato raising sections of the state. Culver in central Oregon, Malin in the Klamath Basin and from Hermiston on the Columbia River. Anniversaries October 7 - Mr. and Mrs. Boyd Wilson October 8 • Mr. and Mrs. Monty Burbank October 9 • Mr. and Mrs. Frank Tuttle October 12 - Mr. and Mrs Harold Kassman. They manned the booth all ten days, serving French fries to all comers and an swering questions on potato culture and marketing. Kathleen really enjoyed herself and talked to persons from every state in the nation including Alaska. Miss Deffer, a junior computor science major at Oregon State University, has returned to school. Happy Dozen Card Club The Happy Dozen Card Club met Friday with Sue Ashcraft, with the losers giving a dinner for the winners. Guest player was Hazel Smith. Winners were Agnes Ashcraft. Anna Long Elsie Divens. Dorothy Fox. Goldie Roberts and Doris Castor. The American Legion Past Presidents met at the home of Mrs. Verna Tobler last Monday. The meeting was opened by Mrs. Otis Smith, presi dent. Plans were made to make flowers for the Wheel Chair Parade to be held in Portland in June. Refreshments were served by the hostess. Social Scene A housewarming celebra tion was given for Mr. and Mrs. Jim Farmer and family in Kuna Saturday evening. Mr. and Mrs. Boyd Haney and family, Mrs. Amy Stradley all of Nyssa; Mr. and Mrs. Gene Watson of Nampa and Mr. and Mrs. Rick Baker and boys of Kuna. Keck attended a birthday party for her daughter. Mrs. Arvin Goff, at the Goff home on Saturday. The traditional birthday cake and ice cream was enjoyed by the many relatives attending. Sunday was the real birthday but due to conflicting sche dules the party was held on Saturday. • • • Mr. and Mrs. Muri Lan caster hosted a family dinner at their home on Sunday. Those attending were their daughter and son-in-law. Mr. and Mrs. Larry Hobson and family of Hagerman, their son and daughter-in-law. Mr. and Mrs. Dean Lancaster and family of Fruitland and their grandson and wife. Kesler, Jr. • • • Jeannie Jefferies, Carlon Taylor and Sam Hartley all students at BYU in Provo visited their parents this weekend. Jeannie is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Marv Jefferies and Carlon’s parents are Mr. and Mrs. John Taylor. Besides a reunion with all the Coate relatives, they enjoyed Disneyland, Knott's Berry Farm and the drive through Lion Country Safari as well as attending Santa Ana's famous Swap Meet on Saturday afternoon. After a 24-hour bus ride home, Nyssa looked mighty good. • • • Mr. and Mrs. Leo Beers of Sausalito, Calif., returned home Monday after visiting for two weeks at the home of Mr. and Mrs. David Beers. Washington hospital. He weighed in at eight pounds. Young Ryan joins a brother Brett, four and one-half years old, at home. Happy grandparents are Mr. and Mrs. Grover Lytle of Nyssa. The new arrival is their eighteenth grandchild, and evens the total of nine girls and nine boys. • • • Mr. and Mrs. Charles Klinkenberg of Chicago. Il linois are the proud parents of an infant son. Young David Allen was born Sunday, October 3. 1976. He joins a sister, Julie Ann at home. She is almost two years old. Happy grandmothers are Mrs. Ruth Klinkenberg of Nyssa and Mrs. G. Penna of Chicago. Mrs. David Beers Has Hip Surgery Mrs. David Beers under went hip surgery for the third time, the first week in September at Holy Rosary Hospital in Ontario. She reports she is now home, doing as well as can be expected with the use of a walker and is able to have company. Escorted to the altar of St. Paul's Catholic Church by her father. Carmen Loera was united in holy matrimony with Felipe Martinez Pa rents of the couple are Mr. and Mrs. Jose Loera. Nampa, and Mr. and Mrs. Jose Inez Martinez. Nyssa. Oregon. The bride designed her dress fashioned in satin high lighted with an embossed floral pattern enriched by pearls and a cathedral length train. Her cathedral length veil was held in place with a satin and pearl tiara. The bouquet of white roses and baby’s breath was accented with pearl clusters. Helen Hoalst played for the double ring nuptial mass. Officiating was Father Paul Flynn. S.M. Matron of honor and best man were Mr. and Mrs. Rudy Pena. Lupe Loera, sister of the bride was maid of honor, dressed in white accented with pink and white lace. A bouquet of maroon satin roses and baby's breath completed her outfit. Preceding the bride to the altar were Madrinas and Padrinos who presented the bride with the traditional gifts of marriage represent ing the gifts of love, trust, security and loyalty. Bridesmaids were Carolina Mendez, Jua nita de Luna. Carmen Ponce. Juanita Hernandez, Rosa Perez and Rebecca Reyes Groomsmen were Diego Cas tellano, Ricardo de Luna. Tony de Leon. Jr., James Hernandez, Cruz Martinez, Jose Martinez. Carrying baskets of red rose petals, flower girls Carmen Mendez and Virginia Martinez wore pink dresses fashioned like the brides maids' gowns. The bride's train was carried by Jose Amparan and Steve Martinez Mrs. Loera chose a lilac crepe dress with a jacket of ecru lace with pastel em broidered flowers. Mrs. Mar tinez wore a turquoise satin gown fashioned with long sleeves. Both mothers had matching ribbon corsages to compliment their gowns. Immediately following the nuptials a wedding dinner was held in Dempsey Hall. The reception and dance was held in the Simplot Field House. Caldwell. The wed ding party performed the traditional wedding dance to the music provided by the "Republica Mexicana." Carmen is employed by the State of Idaho Law Enforce ment Planning Commission, and Felipe is employed by the Idaho Department of Employment. The couple are residing in Boise.
