Oregon NOTICE IS HEREBY Gi ven that the Environmental Review Record of the Adrian Water System Improvement Project revealed no over riding adverse environmental impacts and that the project will not result in a signifi cant adverse effect on the human environment. Second, there are no significant concentrations of minerals. Third, its use will not disturb any agricultural uses. Fourth that the land is virtually unsuitable for any other use. Project modifications and possible alternatives were considered, but it was finally determined that the project as originally designed and located did not have such impact ration. THE CITY OF ADRIAN proposes no further environ mental review of the project. It further intends to request HUD to release funds in the amount of 3250.000 for the construction and further de velopment of their project. Any one who wishes to review the environmental review record has fifteen (15) days to submit their com ments in writing to the City of Adrian. Oregon from the date of publication of this notice. Oregon 97901 Published September 9, 1976 Those who plan to do some soil sterilization work this fall should be sure to put it on prior to fall rains, but before freeze up. This allows the materials to leach into the root zone by fail rains without the danger of moving to areas not wanted sterilized by run off water in the spring. There are many good soil steriiants depending on whe ther you are going after shallow or deep rooted plants. Some are applied dry others sprayed on, both with equally good results. • • • Grain which went into farm storage under less-than-ideal moisture conditions should be checked regularly to insure safe storage. It doe sn't take long for damp grain to begin to heat and conditions to become ideal for insect infestation. Mold activity also accelerates when temperatures rise and mois ture is present. In fact mold activity doubles with each 10° degrees rise in tempera ture. August 25. at Welles-Davies in Payette. USDA grade Mel Wibbels checked 94 car casses and established ele ven factors which were used to evaluate the carcasses, reported Marilyn Mohr. Mal heur County Extension Agent. The evaluating factors included: maturity grade; amount of marbling present; quality grade (prime, choice, good); hot carcass weight; amount of backfat over the ribs; rib eye area; percent of kidney, pelvic aud heart fat; yield grade; percent cuta- biiity; dressing percentage; and square inches of ribeye per one hundred pounds of bodyweight. This last piece of data broke a tie between our two top carcasses, continued Miss Mohr. Ada MacKenzie of Rock ville had the top beef carcass in the sale. This carcass and the one produced by Troy Hartley of Nyssa were tied for first place until the last factor was computed, noted Miss Mohr. Miss Mac Kenzie's steer had 2.28 square inches of ribeye for every one-hundred-pounds of body weight compared to 2.14 square inches in Mr. Hartley's steer. The top three places in the carcass evaluation were Ada MacKenzie. Rockville, first; Troy Hartley. Nyssa, second; and Loretta Maag, Vale, third. Complete results for the carcass evaluation from the Malheur County Fat Stock Sale will be available from the Extension Office this week. Weekly checking should be the rule until you're satis fied that conditons are stable It doesn't take much mold or many insects to affect grade. Careful, regular che cks will help to avoid costly problems. • • • Dlat.
