Some of the many laws that require the involvement of the Department of Revenue in local property assessments will be mentioned and explained. The Assessor to be a proper administrator must be knowlegable of the laws pertaining to the local pro perty assessment There are in excess of 800 laws (Oregon Revised Statutes) that govern the manner local property tax assessments are made and processed. After each legis lative session the Depart ment of Revenue publishes a new book. Property Assess ment and Taxation Laws and Administrative Rules, this book is enlarging at the rate of 40 to 50 pages each publication. It is a constant duty of the Assessor to be aware of the present status of the assess ment laws.
