Thursday, June 10, 1976 Apple Valley Hems By Fmnce. Smalfoy APPLE VALLEY Mr. and Mrs. Dwight Seward and Mr. and Mrs. BUI Russell drove to Bend. Oregon May 31 to take Mrs. Etta Rhoades home. She is Mrs. Russel's mother. While there they visited Mr. and Mrs. Bob Jackson who had just gotten a 6'6 month old, adopted Korean baby, the week before. They have named her Shawna Lee. The Russells and Sewards came home on Tuesday. Mrs. Emma Tuning was a Memorial weekend guest of Mr. and Mrs. Clarence Tuning. Mr. and Mrs. Walter Hopper and family of Mid vale were Saturday dinner guests of Mr. and Mrs. Lloyd Dibble. Sue Dibble entered sum mer school classes at C. of I on Monday for I week of training in special studies. Sunday dinner guests of Mr. and Mrs. Earl Boston were Mrs. Betty Bolton and Jeff of Ontario and Mrs. Bob Sims and sons of lone, Mo. Mrs. Res Wagner spent the last week of May with her sister Mrs. John Houck of Imnaha. Ore. Res Wagner and Mr. and Mrs. Reed Wagner went up over the Memorial weekend and spent several days and brought Mrs. Wagner home. Mrs. Linda Jaggers and Suann of Bolise spent the weekend with Mr. and Mrs. Rex Wagner. Albert and Raymond Ham mer and Candi Fowler at Nysaa were presented in a piano recital on Tuesday evening In the Dwight Seward home. Mr. and Mrs. John MUIer of Melba were Msy 30th evening dinner guests of Mrs. Helen Wilson Emma and Debbie Painter of Twin Falls were Friday overnight guests of Mrs. Helen Wilson. Mrs. Gladys Engelhardt visited Friday with Mrs. Opal Elkhorn at Nampa. Nancy Shippy of Weiser visited over last weekend in the Earl Boston home. They took her home on Monday and had dinner with Mr. and Mrs. Shippy. Other guests were Mrs. Betty Bolton and sons of Ontario and Mrs Bob Sims from Jane. Mo. Who are guests of Mrs. Bolton. Mr\ Hetn Bolton and Mrs. Bob Sims helped Mrs. Earl Boston tie a quilt on Tuesday afternoon. Mrs Gladys Englehardt, Mrs. Eymans, Mrs. Helen Wilson. Mrs. Ruth Fritts. Mrs. Mary Honey and Mrs. Frances Smalley attended the Bicentennial luncheon at the United Methodist Church on Thursday. Mr. and Mrs C.L. Fritts received an announcement of the wedding of Luella Jeanne Ernest of Orthello. Washing ton to Mr. Stephen R. Wagner on Saturday. May 22. Luella will be remember ed as the daughter of Rev. and Mrs. Elvin Ernest who were N.N.C. students that were pastors of the Apple Valley Church years ago. Mr. and Mrs. Dale Morgan and family went Memorial Day weekend camping and fishing up above Meadows. Mr. and Mrs. Clifford Knox of Grandview were Saturday. May 29 guests of his parents Mr. and Mrs. William Knox. Marvin Stout of Salt Lake City and Miss Norma Stout of Boise visited Sunday morn ing, May 30 with Mrs. Nell Correll. Mr. and Mrs. Bill Porter and family of Baker. Oregon were Saturday afternoon guests of Mrs. Mary Honey. Mr. and Mrs. Ernest Honey of Caidwell and Mrs. Nyssa Gat« City Journal, Nyssa, Oregon Mary Honey drove to Boise on Sunday, had lunch at an Eagle Cafe and then visited in Emmett. Mr. and Mrs. A nee I Quick of Marsing were Wednesday callers of Mrs. Mary Honey. Mr. and Waldo Smalley were luncheon guests Tues day of Mrs. Mary Nichols at Nampa to help her celebrate a birthday anniversary. Mr. and Mrs. Leroy Seward held a reception in their home on Mondsy evening for their son Keith who graduated from Parma High School. Friends and relatives were guests for the evening. June 6 • Mr. and Mrs. Lester Reece, Nyssa, girl; Mr. and Mrs. Richard Dean Padilla, Ontario, girl Page Seven Irrigation Pipe Cause Of Many Field Accidents With the irrigation season soon to arrive, Oregon Public Utility Commissioner Charles Davis today warned agricul tural workers of the danger from contact with overhead high voltage electric wires. "One of the greatest hazards to field workers moving irrigation pipe is accidental contact with high voltage overhead power lines," Davis said. Ontario, girl; Mr. and Mrs. Forest Riley, Ontario, boy. years 14 fatal accidents attributable to electrocution from contacting overhead wires with irrigation pipes have been reported to the PUC. Accidents are typically caused by workers raising the pipe to shake out debris or small animals that may be inside. While the worker is watching the low end of the pipe, the opposite end swings high enough to cross or touch a powerline. The Commissioner urged farmers to conduct education programs for their employees outlining safe procedures for handling irrigation pipe in areas crossed by high voltage lines. Pollyanna Club The Pollyanna Club met Thursday afternoon with Linda Conant with eight ladies present. Mrs. Elsie had Gherke, president, charge of the meeting. The secretary and treasurer's reports were given by Mrs. Conant. Old and new busi ness was discussed. Plans were made to have a club picnic Sunday, July 11. It will be a potluck dinner. Bring your own table service, a covered dish and maybe your chair. The place has not been definately decided yet, so call the president. Each member brought something to taste and the recipe. Mrs. Ethel Thompson drew the door prize. Cherry Trees Need Spraying Home owners who have cherry trees will want to spray now for cherry fruit fly control Word received from the Payette County fly trapping program indicates that flies are emerging now. Control can be had by spraying with Malathion or Diazinon or Methoxychlor Do not use sticker-spreader with either treatment. Repeat treatment in 7 to 10 days. Do not spray Diazinon within 10 days of harvest or Malathion within 3 days or Methoxy chlor within 7 days. Cherry fruit fly larvae enter developing fruit and render it unfit for use. Early, thorough treatment is important to get good protection.
