W YEARS AGO Mr Albert Heldt of Nyssa has been chosen by the American Legion Auxiliary and Nyssa Civic Club as candidate for Oregon Mother for 1946 The winner in the state contest will receive a free trip to New York City. • • • Approximately $5000 was added to the Malheur Me morial Hospital building fund through proceeds from the carnival dance and auction held in the Nyssa gymnasium last Saturday night and other activities in connection with the event. • • • Fifty-two seniors to be gra duated in Nyssa Thursday. Two little boys lost their lives Sunday afternoon from eating the appetizing, but deadly poison roots of water hemlock, familiarly known as "wild parsnip." The tragedy hapjiened in the Big Bend District about three miles south of the Adnan bridge and took the lives of John, age 12 and Samuel, age 11. sons of Mr and Mrs. M. K. Johannessen. Oregon JoAnn is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. John Anderson. Mr. Cam mann's cousin. Mr and Mrs. Ceci! Evans were honored by their chil dren Thursday on their forty-second wedding anni versary by a surprise dinner party, at the home of their daughter and son-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Gerald Russell. Centerpiece for the table was a rose-decorated cake on which was written "Thank You. Lord. For These Forty- Two Years." Present at the party were Mrs. Alice Pulsipher (whose son Jesse Fry made the cake). Mr. and Mrs. Harley Sager. Miss Janice Evans, Mr and Mrs. Larry Zeigler and family, Mr. and Mrs. Paul Russell, and the Gerald Russell family. Cecild and Margaret Evans attended a Lay Witness Mission held by the Baptist Church at Jackson. Wyoming last week Mrs. Evans said the crowds were so large the meetings had to be held at a convention center. A delightful part of the trip were visits with their children Sunday night they stayed with Mr. and Mrs. Roy Evans at Massacre Rock State Park near American Falls. They also visited Mr. and Mrs. Terry Stigile of Hazelton. Idaho. Thursday visitors at the home of Francis Cammann were Mr. and Mrs. Ken Kerslake and their three children of Gresham. By Lya Have you ever wondered about that London Bridge they brought over from England and placed over the Colorado River at Lake Havasu? Like. "Doesn't it look out of place out on the Arizona desert?" Well. Mr. and Mrs. Sherman Keck have just returned from there and have a fantastic report. Seems they've built a little town there, called London City, and have made it, Mrs. Keck said, a "fairy tale place", where a bit of old England is counterfeited. She said they have side-walk cafes. English style cars and buses, tea rooms, shops and even a popcorn wagon. Mr. and Mrs. Keck took an eight-day trip with their pickup egmjier down through Utah. Arizona and Nevada during which they visited Brvce Canyon, Zion and Grand Canyon National Parks. At Brigham City, they visited Sherman's brother. Mr. and Mrs. Wilson Keck. In all of their travels, Mrs. Keck said she enjoyed the desert best. At this time of the year, she said, all the flowers are blooming and the weather is pleasantest.
