Veterans Loans Under Ballot One Increase The Department of Vete- ran»' Affairs granted 4.067 veterans' farm and home loans in the January-March quarter just ended in the amount of $103.453.765. H. C. Saalfeld. director, repor ted today. Saalfeld said this compares with 4.930 loans in the preceding quarter for $121,- 787.423. and 2.964 loans in the January-March quarter of 1975 for $67,039,686 Loan applications for the quarter just ended totaled 5,142, against 4.162 in October-December 1975 and 4.803 in January-March last year. Saalfeld said that if Mea sure I passes in the May 25 primary election, loan appli cations are expected to snowball because an addi tional 25.000 veterans would be made eligible. The measure would grant the loan to Vietnam Era veterans who came to Oregon after their military service and lived here for two years prior to May 1, 1977. Under present law they must have entered service from Oregon to qualify. Also. World War II vete- rans who came to Oregon after service and lived here for two years prior to December 31, 1965. would qualify. Presently the two years of postwar residence— unless the veteran entered service from Oregon—must have been before December 31. 1952 Shadow Cat Wins Race "Shadow Cat.” owned by Dona and Roy Obert, of Cainas.
