The new earth block building was erected by Al Chadwick, with Albert Heidi as the contractor in charge. The Ny**a Food Center, formerly Chadwick's Drive-in has been moving to the new building, but will hold its formal opening Saturday, February 2. The Hollings worth Hardware and Im pie ment Company has conduc ted its business in Nyssa for the last two years in the Morgan building across Main Street from the postuffice with Murle Marcum at manager. Police Report Nyssa police released two juveniles to the custody of their parents following their arrest on minor in possession charges Saturday night. They will appear later in juvenile court. Tony Zegura, SO, was arrested January 22. on a concealed weapon charge and was found guilty in Nyssa Municipal Court on Fnday. He was sentenced to 15 days in the county jail and ordered to pay $57 fine 40 YEARS AGO Nyssa is again to co- operate in holding the annual President's Ball for the benefit of infantile paralysis sufferer. The dance to be held next Thursday night, January 30 in the high school gymnasium. Need for combating the dread disease is seen in the Jan Marie Stewart was arrested on January 26 and charged with negotiating bad check*. She entered a plea of guilty in justice court and wa* sentenced to fifteen day* in the county jail. She is being held in the county jail on a warrant from Lane County on the same charges. Bail has been set at $750. Nyssa, has well- earned the title of Nyssa's March of Dimes poster girl During six of her seven years of age she ha* been handicapped from an altact of paralytic polio. Approxi mately $12.000 has been spent by the National Foun datum of Infantile Paralysis for Judy's treatment and care including three major sur genes performed on her legs by orthopedic specialists. Through all the many month* of her suffenng and handi caps. Judy has maintained an unusually happy smile and disposition sparked by a determination to overcome her misfortune and never a moment of vcW ptty. >o 1 r— - uoUWi* GROW* y njlgers - 20 YEARS AGO Nearly .300 range horses left Eastern Oregon. Sunday, bound for Portland. Their days of roaming sagebrush land are over. Never again will they rule the silent prairie, wild and free. On Tuesday they were lead into a hopper—to become fertilizer. It is said that on the ranges of Eastern Oregon. Southern Idaho and Wyoming there are enough unwanted horses to keep the plant in operation for five to six years. The animals are a nuisance to stockmen, who prefer to have them taken care of in this manner rather than to shoot them. The Portland company says that every process is to be humane but never-the less to many a cowboy and buckaroo, it doesn't seem quite right. There is a sympathetic spot in the bean of the man who too has lived in the open for the illfated cayuses that have been his company. Yet when all angle* are considered, the action seem* the best course to take. The useless range nags will be come useful and the range* upon which they feed will be used for cattle and sheep.
