Oregon Traffic Toll
Down For 1975
Chances arc excellent that
Oregon's traffic death toll for
1975 will be the lowest in
about 11 years.
The Oregon Motor Ve
hicles Division reported to
day that deaths through
October totaled 469—7| fe
wer than for the first ten
months last year.
If the approximately 13
percent reduction holds up
for the remaining two months
of the year, officials said the
1975 death toll could be as
low as 562. Oregon has not
had a traffic toll below 600
since 1964 when 57b were
killed

were reported to it in
October, four more than for
October a year ago but still
one of the lowest October
tolls in recent years.
What happens during the
last two months of the year,
particularly to pedestrians,
will be critical in determining
the final toll, officials said.
Last November and De
cember .14 pedestrians were
killed in Oregon traffic. If the
pedestrian record improves
and other traffic deaths
remain about
the same, a
toll below 6(X) seems to be
assured.

Rent Certificates No
Longer Necessary
Landlords are no longer
required to provide rent
certificates for renters claim
ing property tax refunds,
reports John J, Lobdell.
Director of the Oregon
Department of Revenue
Lobdell says the 1975
Legislature dropped the re
quirement of the rent certi
ficate. It is now the respon
sibility of the renters to
provide accurate information

Lobdell says that renters
must fill out a special part of
the property tax refund claim
form (70-R) with addresses,
names of landlords, rental
periods and rental charges
Lobdell added that claims
will be subject to audit by the
revenue department staff, so
persons claiming renter re
funds should retain rental
records for several yean.
Claim forms and instruc
tions will l>e part of the

INVITATION FOR NDS
WHY IS THAT
SO IMPORTANT?
It’s because the wires from the
pole to your home and the transformer
on the pole may not have been planned
for electric heat.
Hundreds of electric heat installations
are being made every month, many without
the Company’s knowledge. Consequently we
are experiencing transformer failures due to
overloading.
Resulting outages may occur in the
coldest weather, at most inconvenient
times. They also can disrupt service for
your neighbors. Emergency replace
ment or repair can cost hundreds of
dollars.
So please call us if you have added
electric heat in recent months or plan to
do so soon. It could save a lot of trouble
for you, your neighbors and for our
crews.
