He is Sammy Valero, and he and his Chihuahua won third prize. Apple Valley Items By Frances Smalley Senior Citizens dinner in Parma Thursday. Mr. and Mrs. Res Nichols and Jay and Mr. and Mrs. Larrv Simons of Boise spent Saturday and Sunday at Moscow to visit with their son Mike who is attending the University. They enjoyed the football game Saturday eve ning between the University and Idaho State. Mr. and Mrs. Earl Boston left Aug. 27 for a trip to Chino. California to visit with their daughter. Mrs. Betty Bolton and family. They stopped at Springfield and took Mrs. Dick Harris with them. They enjoyed going to Disneyland. Mrs. Zora Edens and Jim Edens and family were Sunday dinner guests of Mr. and Mrs. Roy Rookstool. Mr. and Mrs. Virgil Pierce of Caidwell were Sunday afternoon visitors in the Roy Rookstool home. Mr. and Mrs. Roy Rookstool and Mrs. Edens attended the President Erma Sparks opened the Senior Citizens meeting on Wednesday. Sep tember 24 with the flag salute. There were 2b mem bers in attendance and the Rev. and Mrs. Bill Russell of the Church of the Nazarene. the Rev Walter Schmidt of Faith Lutheran Church and Mike Burgwin. who is the area planner for Senior Citizens in this area. Following the reading and accepting of the minutes and treasurers report. Rev. Rus sell and Rev. Schmidt dis cussed the "Meals on Wheels” program. This will be sponsored by the Minis terial Association. This pro gram provides hot meals five days a week for $1.75 per meal for shut-ins. The meals will probably be prepared at the hospital and delivered to the proper persons. This is one of several things that are being con sidered in a survey that is being made in the area on the needs of the aged. Leona Reeves and Merle Johnson are working on this survey. Mr. Burgwin talked about the Senior Citizen Housing and though there is nothing definate. hopefully twenty units will be built within the near future. Hazel Smith reported that 50 Bicentennial paperweights are now available to sell. The rummage sale will continue at 213 Reece Ave nue as long as the weather permits. The time has been changed from 10 a.m. to 12 noon to 5 p.m. Leona Reeves reported on the quilting project. Follow ing a reading by Dale Witt, everyone repeated the Lord's Prayer and adjourned to enjoy the potluck dinner. Happy Anniversary October 7, Mr. Boyd Wilson. Mr. Edward Larsson. October 9, Mr. Frank Tuttle. and Mrs. and Mrs. and Mrs. and Mrs. Hoosier i\iglil Held At Oregon Trail Grange Members of Oregon Trail Grange and their guests met Thursday evening. Septem ber 18. at the Grange Hall for a potluck dinner followed by a Booster Night program. Grange Master Harold Kurtz welcomed the guests and introduced Lecturer Mar guerite Moss who was in charge of the program. Mrs. Moss added her welcome and introduced Don Somers who reported that the purpose of Booster Night was to ac quaint interested persons with the aims and history of the grange. Contrary to opinion, it is not necessary for one to be a farmer in order to be eligible to join the grange. Anyone interested in any of the activities related to agriculture such as process ing. transportation, or mar keting is eligible for member ship. There is no restriction in race or creed. The Grange is for the entire family and women can hold any office. A Junior Grange for children ages 5 to 14 is available where it is desired. The Legislative Commit tees of the Grange start at the local level. Resolutions made at local level go to the Pomona or county level and to the State Grange and on to the National Grange. Any member can introduce a resolution. Somers explained that Grange is opened by placing the Bible on the altar, a prayer is offered by the Chaplain, and the flag is always presented. He stated that there are 43 quotations from the Bible in the ritualistic work. The Subor dinate Degrees portray the four seasons; spring, sum mer. fall, and winter and are compared to the seasons of life: childhood, youth, man hood or womanhood, and old •ge State Deputy Robert Coble and Mrs. Coble, Richland, were visitors. Coble spoke of the part that State and National Grange take in the Legislative program. The State Grange is committed to the preservation of the familv farm. The group was entertained by the Son Shiners. This very popular singing group was greatly appreciated. The meeting was closed by Grange Master Harold Kurtz The next regular meeting will be held Thursday evening. October 2. 8:30 p.m. Election of officers is in order and all Oregon Trial Grange members are urged to attend this important meeting. "Kick Off" Theme Of TICAF Meet "Kick Off" will be the theme when the Treasure Valley Christian Women's Club meets Wednesday. October 8 at the La Paloma in Ontario at I p.m. Special feature will be a style show by Fargo's of Payette, featuring fall "Kick Off" fashions. Speaker for the afternoon will be Sharon Barger, wife of a Nampa business man. Bob Brownlee of Ontario will furnish the music. A free nursery will be provided at the First Baptist Church.
