BAHKAMEEICARD * LAYAWAY _ The State Park Campsite Reservation and Campsite Information Systems will begin operations at 12:01 a.m., Saturday. May 17 and remain open until 5 p m. that day. David G. Talbot, state park superintendent, said today. Following this initial day of operation, both systems will be in operation from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday through Friday. The Reservation Sys tem will remain in operation until August 31 while the Information system will close on August 29. Campsite reservations may be made by telephone, letter, or in person at the park. The reservation must be made at a specific park for use at that particular park. Reservations may be made for a future period or for immediate use and no waiting period shall be required between the time a reservation is made and when it is utilized. Talbot explained that this year 15 state parks will be participating in the reserva tion program. Last year there were IB parks engaged in the program but Milo McIver. Lapine and Umpqua Light house State Parks were dropped because of the relative high cost factor per reservation. The Information System enables campers to make toll- free calls from anywhere in Oregon to Salem and receive current information on the availability of campsites, weather conditions and other pertinent items concerning state parks. The toll-free number is 1 800-452 0294. If there is any difficulty in dialing this number direct, callers are requested to ask the operator for assistance. Toll-free calls from out-of- state cannot be made to this number. Talbot empha sized that campsite reser vations cannot be made tern but only at the park where the reservation is de sired. He also stressed that the campsite availability in formation provided by the center was for a specific time and day only and is subject to continual change. There is a $1.00 reser vation charge payable upon arrival at the park. Talbot said. The basic reservation rules are similar to those of last year, he continued, but there have been changes in park regulations and rules. These apply to pets, check out time, length of stay, firewood charges and other items, and Talbot advised campers to check the rules so they will know what can and cannot be done.
