Nysta Gat« City Journal, Nyisa, Oregon Goodtimes 4—H Club The Goodtimes 4-H Club met Monday. March 10 We finished making our ditty bags. There will be no meeting March 17 because of Spring Vacation. We are going to make a purse at the meeting on March 24. Valerie Fanning, reporter Happy Birthday (»olden Wedding Anniversary MR. AND MRS. WILBUR COFFMAN will be honored guests at a reception, honoring their golden wedding anniversary, Sunday. March 23, 1975 at the United Methodist Church social hall from 2:30 p.m. to 5 p.m. They were married March 6, 1925 in Carson. North Dakota. They moved to Nyssa in 1943. He worked for the North Board of Control and retired in 1955. Hosting the event will be their children. Dorothy Wilson of Nissa and Melvin and Delores Marcum of Eugene. They will be assisted by grandchildren Larry. Nancy and Patsy Wilson and Crystal and Michael Marcum. Friends and relatives are invited to attend. The request is "no gifts" please. Jobies Plan Benefit to Help Little Paul The Nvssa Jobs Daughters Bethel *33 will hold a benefit pinochle and bridge card party April 2 (Wednesday) at 8 p.m. in the Masonic Hall. There will be a charge of $1 00, with dessert served. The benefits of the card party will got o help three -year-old Paul Schneider, son of William C. Schneider of Nyssa and Mrs. Margie Mitchell of Caldwell. Last fall the youngster was play ing in the back yard and became entangled in a clothesline, with resulted in brain damage. He was rushed to the hospital in Caldwell where he remained in a coma for a long period of time. His mother was at his side day and night, sleeping on a lounge chair outside of his door. He is now totally blind and severely mentally retarded. Hope still remains for this child however, as there is a hospital in Philadelphia. Pennsylvania where they think they can help him. The parents need help after the tremendous hospital bills to send the boy and his mother to Phila delphia. Thev need ap proximately $2.500 for, the trip alone. Won’t you help the Jobies help Paul? Anna Doritv ORDER OF EASTERN STAR Stardusters OES met at the home of Marie Holmes with Cleta deBoer co-hostess. Patricia Marcum, president presided at the meeting. Sixteen members answered mil call. Bazaar work was distributed after the meeting adjourned members worked on Easter favors for the Malheur Memorial Nursing Home and hospital. Hostesses served delicious refreshments. Next meeting will be April 14. Historical Society Meets Tonight The Malheur Country His torical Society will meet (to night) Thursday. March IJ at 7:30 p.m. in Room 10 of the Weese Building at TVCC in Ontario. Starting at 8 p.m., Mr. Horton Worsham will talk about the Malheur City area and gold mining. Girls must be 12 to 20 years of age to join and be related to a member of the Masonic Lodge. Girls of this age who are daughters, adopted dau ghters, great-granddaugh ters. sisters, half-sisters, step sisters, sisters-in-law. nieces, grand nieces or first or second cousins of a Master Mason in good standing in a Masonic Lodge, or who was in good standing at the time of his death, or so related to his wife or widow, shall be eligible to membership. Jobs Daughters was founded in 1920 by Ethel T. Wead Mick. Each year there is a State Convention in Oregon and also a National Convention in the U.S. The benefits teenage girls derive are numerous. As expressed in the Book of Job, we encounter trials and tribu lations which must be met and overcome. Girls receive training in honesty, patience, and faith in God. as exempli fied by Job. There are no special church affiliations, all girls of Masonic relationship are welcome. The activities of the Nyssa Bethel have ranged from Merchants Luncheons, dona ting money from a dinner to help buy a guide dog for the blind, serving Toastmis tresses. donating money from card party to help 3-year-old boy. who suffered brain damage and is scheduled to go to Pennsyl vania to a hospital, blood- mobile volunteers, collecting for heart fund, making favors and birthday cakes for nursing home, decorating Christmas trees for hospital. Fun activities are also a part of our organization, such as swim parties, roller skating parties, dances with DeMo- lay, snow parties, hayrides, going on chartered bus with Ontario bethel to Grand Session and all the fun there. Leo is recuperating at his home on 423 North Sth St., and he may have visitors. Pollyannas Meet The Pollyanna Club met Thursday afternoon at the home of Mrs. Klaas Laan in Kingman Kolony with ten ladies present. Mrs. Paul Gehrke presi dent, presided over the business meeting. Mrs. Ray White gave the secretary treasurers report. Following the meeting, the afternoon was spent visiting. The next meeting will be with Mrs. Robert Radford. Past Masters Hold M««t Past Masters Club met at Vale Masonic Hall with Vale Lodge *142 hosts. Twelve membes were present. Members were asked to contact Past Masters, who are not members and ask them to join. Next meeting will be in Ontario with Acacia Lodge *118 as hosts. Place and date will be announced later. Mr. and Mrs. Bob Franklin announce the engagement of their daughter, Pv/2 Vicki Kay Franklin to Sp/4 John Randall Fritz, son of Mr. and Mrs. Neil Fritz of Ickesburg, Pennsylvania. Pv/2 Franklin, a 1973 graduate of Nyssa High School, attended Kinman Business College, majoring as a dental assistant. She entered the Army in May 1974. Sp/4 Fritz, a 1973 graduate of Ickesburg. Pa., high school, was 1973 State Wrestling Champ and is an all-around athlete. He plays basketball for the 83rd Transportation Company in Germany. The young couple is planning an early spring wedding in the Army Chapel at Kaiserslautern. Germany. Mrs. Pal Cook, Jr. (Judy Laurance) and children Brian and Laura from Anchorage. Alaska have been visiting at the home of her parents. Mr. and Mrs. Rolland Laurance this past two weeks. • • • Mrs. Raymond Larson of Ogden. Utah visited this past week at the home of her parents. Mr and Mrs A. C. Sallee and her mother-in-law. Mrs. R. G. Larson and other relatives and friends. She returned home on Saturday. • • • Mrs. Glen Marcum re ports that her mother. Mrs. Paul (Betty) House is in the hospital in Quincy. Washing ton with pneumonia and pleurisy. * • • Mr. and Mrs. Harold Castor of Owyhee Junction have returned home from a four-months stay in Quartz site. Arizona. • * • Mrs. Verne (Laura) Chad wick of Covina, California visited her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Damon Savage for several days last week. She also visited Verne's parents, Mr. and Mrs. Al Chadwick and other relatives. R«v. Box 1648, Nyssa and telephone number is 372-2909. Miss Croom is deacon in charge for St. Paul’s Episco pal Church in Nyssa and St. Trinity Episcopal Church, Vale. She is a part of Malheur County team ministry. Thursday, March 13, 197 5 GRANGE NEWS Oregon Trail Grange The dinner party given by the men of Oregon Trail Grange for the Grange women was held Thursday evening March 6. in the Lion's Den at the Eastside Cafe. Thirty members were welcomed by Grange Master Harold Kurtz. The blessing was asked by Don Somers. Each member was expec ted to answer roll call by telling a story, or of an embarrassing moment or just a plain old tall tale. It wasn't a contest, but here was a lot of competition. Some of the speakers and subjects follow: Loyd Adams told of the misuse of calf scour medicine Bob 'Holmes response was about hamburgers and Fren ch fries; Ira Price told about what not to take for a head ache; Lois Boenig had a Tangram type puzzle that had everyone trying to get four odd-shaped pieces of paper together to make the letter ”T”; Jerry Hansen explained why Harold Kurtz is called "Mighty Hunter;" Caroline Hansen explained how to avoid rattle snakes while camping. Don Somers told how to eat oysters; Ernie Metcalf read an article about being in shape. Harold Kurtz told a strange story about Silent Valley; everyone re sponded bravely to roll call, and if there had been a prize for first place, it probably would have gone to Wilbur Atherton for his story about wnnkles; the group sang happy birthday to Stanley Sisson; a word of apprecia tion from the women in the form of a poem composed and read by Ellen Jones completed the roll call. The next regular Grange meeting will be held Thurs day evening, March 20. 8 p m. Hosts for the evening are Jerry Hansens and Mancil Bishops. Lecturer's program will be given by the Secretary. Display table will hold baby pictures. All Grange members are urged to attend. CWA Members of the CWA Club of Oregon Trail Grange met Tuesday. March 4. at the home of Clara Price. The meeting was called to order by Chairman Betty Kurtz and the inspirational, entitled "One Big Mess," was read by Jackie Sisson. A report on the CWA Conference held at Boulevard Grange Saturday, February 28. was given Members are urged to take part in all of the Grange contests. Non gran gers may be sponsored in the sewing contest and anyone interested in entering may get more information from Iva Adams or Polly Holub Plans for the Malheur County Grange Lecturers’ Program and dinner to be held April 17, at Oregon Trail Grange were discussed. The program presented by Violet Dry dale featured Eas ter baskets in the form of rabbits made from plastic bottles, styrafoam balls and plastic wrap. «■i Page Four Strawn—Lancaster United In Fruitland Methodist Church Joyce Elaine Strawn be came the bride of Michael Dean Lancaster. November 29, 1974 at the Fruitland United Methodist Church. The Reverend Hardy Thomp son officiated at the double ring ceremony. The altar was decorated with baskets of chrysanthemums and can delabra. Soloists were Mr and Mrs. Jerry Wilson of Moscow and organist was Mrs. Joe Schmid. Parents of the couple are Mr and Mrs. Richard Strawn and Mr and Mrs. Dean Lancaster all of Fruitland. The bride, given in mar riage by her father, wore a gown of organza over satin, fashioned with ruffling and beading on the bodice and cuffs and a bell skirt. The gown was designed and made by the bride's mother Her fingertip veil was held to a cap tnmmed in beading and a satin bow. She carried a cascading bouquet of rose buds. fern and ivy. Janet Strawn was maid of honor for her sister Teresa Locey, Kathy Carnefix and Trudy Claxton were brides maids. They wore floor length gowns of chiffon over pastel linings and earned nosegays of satin rosebuds with ribbon streamers Tammy Lancaster, sister of the bridegroom, was flower girl and Russel Strawn, brother of the bride, was ring bearer. Best man was Jerry Wilson of Moscow and ushers were Gary Seward and Mike Fitsimmons of Nyssa and John Coate. of Boise Refreshments were served to sixteen members by co-hostess Dinah Bishop The next regular meeting will be held Tuesday, April I. at the home of Ellen Jones with Polly Holub as co hos less. The bride is a senior at the Fruitland High School and is employed at Sprouse Reitz in Ontario. Her husband gra duated from Fruitland High School and attended TVCC.
