Nyssa Gato City Journal, Nyssa, Oregon Pag* Eight Adrian Takes First Win Over Marsing The Adrian defense stop ped Marsing three times inside the Adrian five-yard line in the second half and the Antelopes scored a 12 to 6 victory over Marsing in Treasure Valley League play Friday, October II. The final stand came in the dying minutes as Marsing drove to the two-inch line before the Adnan defense took over the bail on dow ns and the Antelope offense ran out the clock. Marsing's only score came on an offensive fumble which Marsing linebacker Raymond Roeter fell on for a touch- dow n in the Adrian end Zone. The passing of Brendan Pratt and running of Larry Thiel punctuated an Adrian offense that rolled up 338 total yards. Pratt hit 11 of 23 passes for 168 yards while the rushers totaled 270 yards on the ground for a balanced attack. Thiel and Calvin Robinson led the ground attack, each ripping large chunks of yardage. Tackles Jed Chamberlain and Lee Hill turned in superb games, especially defen sively. Scott Orris was also praised. Louis Asumendi turned in another superb game at linebacker, leading the team in tackles for the second straight week. Adrian's touchdowns were scored by Thiel on an eight-yard run in the second quarter and a five-yard run by Tom Okai in the third period. Another touchdown on a 35-yard screen pass from Pratt to Robinson was called Back. Marsing 0 0 0 6 6 Adrian 0 6 6 0 12 Adri-Thiel 8 run (run failed). Adrian-Okai 5 run (pass failed). For half of the first quar ter. both teams played on fairly even terms. Nvssa took the opening kickoff and pushed down the field for a touchdown, with Eric Vanetti going over from ten yards out Mike Johnson passed to Darry l South for the two point conversion, making the score 8 to 0. Weiser promptly replied with a touchdown of their own as Roget Reyes took the opening kickoff and went seventy yards on the ensuing kickoff. The run for two points failed and the Bulldogs led 8 to 6. Nyssa scored two more times in the first period on Jose Del gado’s eight yard run and Rev Grijalva’s thirty yard reverse. Both passes for extra points failed, and the first quarter ended with Nyssa holding a 20 to 6 edge. Nvssa continued to run up the tally in the second quarter as Jose Delgado scoretf his second touchdown of the game on a fifty-five yard burst up the middle. Rey Grijalva's run for the two point conversion was good, and the Bulldog's led 28 to 6. Later in the same period. Delgado broke away again, this time on a forty-five yard scamper, for still another touchdown. The pass for two points after the touchdown was blocked, but Nyssa went in at halftime with a commanding 34 to 6 lead. Things did not improve in the third period for Weiser. Chuck Stults. the Bulldog's nose guard, recovered a Rocket fumble and carried it into the end zone for another score despite the frantic efforts of four Weiser players to bring him down. Johnson passed to Grijalva for a two point conversion and Nyssa let 42 to 6. The Bulldogs final tally came on a long seventy-one yard run by Eric Vanetti for his second score of the game. Johnson passed to Wahlert for two points and Nyssa led 50 to6.
