Making the biggest jump in a single week since the tournament began was Paul Norland w ho charged from 12 on the ladder all the way to no. b. Norland beat Dale Adams who was 10th and then beat Marvin Jefferies, who was eighth, both on Sat urday Mondav he then beat Meriin Mann (sixth) to complete the jump In other horseshoe pitching action. Dale Adams then beat Marvin Jefferies to remain in the IOth spot on the ladder, dropping Jefferies to 12th Mann dropped to the eighth spot after losing to Norland Late last week Dave Waldo had moved into fifth by edging Mann in two games The standings this week are: I Bob Wilson 2. Bernard Fastman Huntley Takes Head Coach Positions At Adrian High Jerry Huntley, a Nyssa junior high school teacher and coach in three sports at Nyssa High School, has resigned and will take over head coaching duties in two sports at Adnan High School. Huntley. an assistant coach last year at Nyssa High School in football and wrest ling will take head coaching duties in both sports at Adrian, according to Princi pal Glenn Ward. Huntley will teach social studies at Adrian High. Last year a Nyssa. Huntlev had also coached tennis and had been the junior high football coach. Nyssa School Superintendent. W' L. Me- Partland indicated that no replacement had been hired as yet. He said further that the football coaching staff for the coming season would probably operate with one ¡ess member—w ith no re placement for Huntlev Replacements for his other coaching positions have al ready been named as Hunt lev was not going to continue coaching at Nyssa. NYSSA Phono 372-2201 WVWWnW 1. 8. 1974 The Nvssa swim team went to Roise last weekend and came home with some very respectable platings in the Idaho State B Meet In fact five members of the team did so well in the B meet that they weren't awarded placings in the B meet —instead thev were awarded an entrv into the Idaho State A Meet. I wm brothers Mark and Matt Rose each earned two spots in the A Meet, along with Mike W’ahlert. Megan lackson and Kaihv Bass. Mark Rose, swimming in the 8 and under age bracket, easily swept bv his competi tion in the 50-vard backstroke He covered the distance in 55 f seconds He beat the boy who took the first place medal in the official B Meet standings by over two and one half seconds He also qualified in the SO-vard butterflv with a time of 1 00. 1 Brother Matt clobbered his competitors in the 100 freestyle He beat the B Meet first placer by 10 seconds Onlv one other swimmer qualified in the event for the State A Meet and Matt beat him bv four and one-half seconds He also qualified in the 50-vard butterflv with a 104.0 time Mike Wahlert also turned in a fine performance in winning the 100 freestyle for boys 13-14 His time was 1:03.5—eight-tenths of a second better than the second placer and almost four seconds better than the swimmer awarded first plate in the official B Meet standings Megan Jackson qualified for the A Meet in the girls 15-17 100-vard freestyle She covered the distance in 1:10.6. She placed second among three girls that qualified. Kathy Bass qualified tn the 50 freestvlc tor girls 15-I". Her time was 30.9. beating the standard by .6 of a second. Many other Nyssa swim mers competed well, al though missing the State A Meet qualifying standards. Right behind Megan Jack- son in the 100 freestyle for girls 15-17 was Kathv Bass She placed third in the official B Meet standings with a 1:13.2 clocking Megan and Kathv also did well in the 118) vard back stroke— Megan grabbing first in 1:30.3 and Kathy second in 1:31.6— both just missing the State A stan dard. Lori Lane scored a first place in the girls 13-14 100-vard breaststroke in a time of 1:31.8—missing the A standard by one-tenth of a second Wahlert also look first place in the 50 vard freestyle with a time ot 29.0 Marina Mejia was impressive in the girls II 12 50 vard butterflv taking fourth in 42.7 and Sheila Jovee was 10th in 44 n Michael Sadimori took fourth m the girls 13-14 100-vard butterflv in I 40 9 Leslie lane was I Ith in the girls II 12 100-vard breast stroke in 1:41.5 and Julie Sarazin took a second place in the 50 vard freesivlc for girls eight ami under with a time of 53 2 Julie Mathews was ninth hi lhe same event in 1:00.1 Todd Langlev got a very respectable fourth in the 50 vard backstroke in 47.'. Other good performances for Nvssa were Man Rose in the bovs eight and under 100 vard individual medlev He Pounds 20th and lerry Morrison 23rd. Megan Jack son took sixth in the same event for girls 15-17. Bob Bass garnered an •Ighth place (out of 20 placers) in the boys 11-12 200-vard individual medley. In the backstroke. Scott Wood placed ninth in the boys eight and under com petition In boys 9-10 Jim Rodríguez placed 19th. In boys 100-vard hackstroke ages 11-12 Bill McMillan was 12th and Bob Bass 17th. In the gills 100 'aid backstroke competition. Terri Morrison and Teri Pounds, in a vers large II 12 age group, placed ,18th and 39th. re spectively. For girls 13-14. Julie Sarazin took fourth in the girls eight and under 50-vard backstroke. Her time was 1 02 8 Marina Mejia took a creditable seventh (out of 41 placers) in the girls 11-12 100-vard backstroke with a time of I 36.2. Larrv Church was sixth with a good time of I 29 8 in the boys 13-14 100-vard backstroke. Swimmers Dropped By Ontario, Fast Times Recorded Last Week Nvssa dropped a three way swim meet with powerful Ontario and Vale Tuesday night at Vale Ontario won the meet followed by Vale, then Nvssa Six Nyssa swimmers took first places, but three of them came home with two «first place medals each Twin brothers Mark and Matt Rose each took a pair of wins as the two continued to dominate the eight and under bracket for boys swimming. Mike Wahlert also took victories in the bovs 13-14 bracket and Scott Wood. Kathy Bass and Megan Jackson each got a victory for Nvssa Public Notices Thursday. Matt Rove was first in the 100-yard individual medley with a time of I 48 3 and he also took the 50-yard butter fly in 59 0. He also took two second Pl» ces in individual events and helped two relav teams to second places. Mark Rose won the 50-yard backstroke in 52.9 and doubled back to win 100 freestyle in 1:38.0. He beat Matt, who placed second in that race, by three tenths of a second. Mark also helped the two relay teams to second places. Wahlert won both the 100 butterflv and the 100 free style. His time in the freestyle in I 06 4 and he took the butterfly in 1:20.4 Scott Wood's victory came in the 50-yard freestyle with a time of 48.9. Wood also swam a leg on the medley and freestyle relay teams that the Rose brothers were on. Steve Messuk was the fourth member of both relays. Kathy Bass secured a Nyssa victory with a 30 6 in the girls 15-17 50-yard freestyle and Megan Jackson won in the 100 vard butterfly with a 1:10.3. In a meet last week Nvssa took second in a three-way meet with Vale and Emmett Vale won with 507 points. Nyssa earned 307 and Em mett managed only 133.
