She visited the Journal office with her parents Rev. and Mrs. Tony Maldonado recently and we coultki't resist taking her picture. The outfit was made by her grandmother Mrs. Teresa Del Rio, of Phoenix, Arizona. Trip Around Oregon We've been roaming the country for six days but It only seems like we were gone a couple of days. The trip all ended too soon. We thought that getting up at 5 a.m. to get ready to leave Nyssa was tiad, but we soon found out that getting up at 6 a.m. every morning was worse, especially when we didn't go to bed until mid night or past. (Most of the time, it was even later than that as the teachers tell us!) We went to a lot of pla ces we’d never been to be fore-places you can’t learn about out of books and pla ces you’d never be able to see when you’re in a hurry to get to the place you’re going. We went to so many pla ces that we’ll only pick out the highlights of our trip. The first exciting place on our way to Milwaukee, where we spent our first night, was Multonomah Falls. A few of us got a quick shower when we tried to go behind the falls, but we dried out right before we went to bed. The next day we visited the State Capitol. Almost every room had paintings and things made especially for It. The Governor’s of fice even had furniture made by prisoners of the peni tentiary. The House of Re presentatives and the Senate each had a special rug which had been particularly desig ned for them. Next we went to the Port land Zoo and saw many dif ferent animals, some of which we had never seen be fore. Then we went to OMSI and we saw many machines and gadgets and electronic devi ces you could work to gain knowledge. (And get a load of this--there was even a love meter!) That night we went to Lloyd's Center and there were so many different stores and things to do. Some of us skinned our knees when we tried to ice skate, but it was a lot of fun. The last most exciting event that happened was when we went to the beach and swam in the ocean. Many of the kids had never seen the ocean before and it was truly an experience. We also got to swim in Nehalem's High School Gym, and we were surprised that they had a pool because there are only 250 people in the town. There weren't any catas- trophies except a few spi ders and snakes--a few stu dents got lost at Lloyd'sCen- ter--a few got slight colds-- some got homesick--a few almost drowned--the lunch we ate on the beach was a little gritty and the tea chers and chaperones didn’t get their required sleep. But, all in ail, it was a really neat trip and it never would have been possible wi thout Mr. Huntley, who star ted the whole trip. We would all like to especially thank him for all the lime and ef fort he put into ttl Even though sometimes he would gel so upset and almost have a kervwus breakdown. M who wouliti't with suck' * fantastic group? W e even got complimented in several res taurants we went in for being the best group that had ever been there before. Also, we would like to thank all the other teachers and chaperones and Mr. Martin for going along with uson the trip. Even (bough they might have regretted it, we think they had as gooda time as we did. And, last of all, we would like to thank everyone that supported us and made it possible for us to go.
