BIG BEND - Mr. and Mrs. Ross English and Jay of Kla math Falls came Wednesday evening to spend the rest of the week with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Darrell Eng lish and sister, Mr. and Mrs. Stan Thomas. Mrs. Joe Witty returned home Thursday from the Mal heur Memorial Hospital in Nyssa where she had been receiving treatment for a broken arm. Jolly Janes Club met W ed nesday afternoon with Mrs. Ted Avery with Mrs. Dal las Chaney as assistant. Fourteen ladies attended. Roll call was a spring bulb exchange. Next meeting will be with Miss Helen Hatch near Ontario. They plan to work on May baskets for a nursing home. Mrs. Eva Campbell has sold her farm in Big Bend and has moved into a new trailer home in Kingman Kolony. Mr. and Mrs. Robert Smith of Deary, Idaho are visiting her sister, Mr. and Mrs. Boyce Van DeWater. They came Saturday. Mr. and Mrs. Stan Thomas entertained with an early birthday party for Mrs. Dar rell English, Toshia Thomas, Jay English and Mrs. Ross English whose birthdays all are early in April. Guests for supper were Mr. and Mrs. Ross English and Jay, Mr. and Mrs. Ralph Thomas of Roswell, Mr. and Mrs. Dyre Roberts. Mr. and Mrs. Darrell English and the Stan Thomas' and Toshia. Mr. and Mrs. Phil Clucas called later toenjoy cake and home made ice cream with the other guests. Mr. and Mrs. Verl Bishop have been spending much time at Caldwell to be near his mother, Mrs. Will Bis hop who is in the Caldwell Memorial Hospital with a heart attack. Cleve Clucas and Jean Harder of Salem came Mon day to visit Mr. and Mrs. Phil Clucas and family. Mr. and Mrs. Burton Blades and Mr. and Mrs. Dennis Heaps and family of Nampa called on Mr. and Mrs. Dyre Roberts Sunday af ternoon. Mr. and Mrs. Carl Fogle man and Ilene of Nampa were Sunday guests of Mr. and Mrs. W, C. Van De Water and Kent. Mr. and Mrs. Deine Brock of Ontario and Mr. and Mrs. Tom Buckles, Joe and Amy of Vale were Sunday sup per guests of Mrs. Edythe Prosser in honor of her birthday. Mrs. Dyre Roberts and Mrs. Darrell English calledon Mrs. Don Lee in Roswell Sunday afternoon. Mr. and Mrs. Phil Clucas called on the Ladd Sutton fa mily of Eugene who were visiting his mother, Mrs. Genevieve Sutton in Cald well Sunday afternoon. Mr. and Mrs. Boyce \an DeWater and Mr. and Mrs. Robert Smith called on Mr. and Mrs. Dick Reed and family in Boise Sunday afternoon. The Big Bend Home Ex tension Study Group met Tuesday afternoon with Mrs. Ernest Seuell. The lesson, ■ Are you listening?” w as gi ven by Mrs. Seuell. A nice group attended. Mr. and Mrs. Ross Eng lish and Jay left Sunday morning for their home in Klamath Falls where he at tends OT1. Mr. and Mrs. Vernon Slippy and family of Owy hee Corners visited Mr. and Mrs. Phil Clucas and fa mily and their guests Cleve Clucas and Jean Harder, Tuesday evening. Gov. McCall Named Conservationist of Year Governor Tom McCall has been selected "Conserva tlonist of the Year" by the nation's largest conserva tion organization, the Na tional Wildlife Federation. The governor will receive the award March 30 in Den ver, Colorado, during the 38th annual meeting of the federation. The federation anticipates that 1,000 of its 3 1 2 million members will attend. In announcing the award to McCall, the federation said he was chosen "for his strong leadership and fore sight in a number of state wide conservation programs, which have made Oregon an Mr. and Mrs. Stan Thomas and Toshia were guests of Mr. and Mrs. Ralph Thomas in Roswell Sunday. Mrs. Verl Bishop enter tained the Women's Asso ciation of the Adrian Pres byterian Church Thursday afternoon. Mrs. Edythe Prosser assisted her. Mr. and Mrs. John Park wood attended a family din ner at the Perry Parrott home in Ontario Tuesday. Mr. and Mrs. Jerry Hull and Mr. and Mrs. John Au- mos attended the crab din ner at Emmett Saturday eve ning and while there they visied with Cathy Merrill and Mr. and Mrs. Bob Yen sen of Montana. Mr. and Mrs. Jerry Hull visited Saturday with Mr. and Mrs. Walt Jeffers of Emmett. Manlu Wilson of Rupert was home over the weekend to visit with her mother Helen Wilson. Mrs. Lucille Reed, Mrs. Orville Reed and Mrs. Nell Correll were Boise shop pers on Tuesday and visited in the Cleo Whittom home. Mr. and Mrs. C. L. Fritts entertained with dinner Sa turday evening. Guest were Mr. and Mrs. Robert Tuning of Caldwell, Mr. and Mrs. Clarence Tuning of Roswell and Mr. and Mrs. Earl Tu ning of Baker, who were also Sat. overnight guests. Mrs. Mayme Stout of Boise a former Apple Valley re sident was taken to St. Al- phonsus Hospital Tuesday after suffering a heart at tack. She is responding to treatment very well. Saturday evening visitors in the Gene Honey home were Mr. and Mrs. Sam King and Sunday afternoon visitors were Mr. and Mrs. Jim Grif fin of Nyssa, Mrs. Leeland Dewey and children of Fruit land. Mr. and Mrs. Bruce Honey and Chad of Boise and Mr. and Mrs. Ernest Honey of Caidwell and her mother from Missouri. Mrs. Waldo Smalley at tended an open house 81 bir thday anniversary party on Monday afternoon for Mrs. Jennie Cowling at her home in Caldwell. Later in the afternoon Mrs. Smalley vi sited with Mrs. George Kratzberg at Caldwell. Mrs. Pauline Boston. Mrs. Ruth Fritts and Mrs. Fran ces Smalley attended the Me morial Service at the Me thodist Church in Caldwell for the Rev. Harold Nve of Gladstone, Oregon who had teen a former minister there and whose son Dick started his career in the ministry at the Apple Valley Church about 22 years ago. If you have made your 1974 budget, it may tie well to take ano ther look at these items and make sure that you have enough to take care of the in creases that have hit the past few weeks Indications are that ferti lizers have increased be tween 80 and 100*1 during the |iast six weeks and are still going up Fuels for farm deliveries have gone up close to 25- 30^ in the past six weeks and they too are still going up, so keep your eyes on ttiese two items and be ready to make some quick responses, so that you don't get 3/4 through the season and find yourself fal ling short of your projected budget
