Lance Lane and David Dail, hold ing bobcat. Not pictured is David Rieb. They were ac companied by Club leader. Harold Kurtz. These members enjoyed a field tripSunday, January 27. Leaving Nyssa at eight o’clock, they traveled to the Quarts Mountain Dry Creek area where they met George Roth and Lauren Wright. They accompanied the men on their trap line, learning how to set traps for coyotes and bobcats. Of particular interest was the scent used to attract the animals to the traps, the way the traps are set and positioned, covered with dirt, rocks and sticks used to guide the animals to the traps. Lauren and Geo rge instructed the members on the art of skinning and the care of coyote, bobcat and badger fur Other points of interest the group enjoyed was seeing a calcite mine. Visiting the site of an Indian Ceremonial grounds, where rocks had been placed in circles and squares, looking for arrow heads at an Indian camp ground and seeing two Indian grave locations. Time ran out so the group did not get to go to an Indian cave, but maybe next time. The Nyssa 4-H Rifle club has 48 members, and is one of the largest 4-H clubs in the county. They meet and fire the N.R.A. approved rifle course once a month Anyone between the ages of 11 and 18 inclusive, inte rested in joining, may contact any of the members or the club leader.
