n District Cardan Club Meats Adrian Garden Club Hometown News The Adrian Garden Club met Monday afternoon with Mrs. Edythe Prosser in Big Bend with 12 ladies present. Mrs. Varner Hopkins, vice president had charge of the meeting. The group repeated the "Gardner’s Prayer." NOT FVERY BOY GETS TO MEET a real live astronaut, and fewer yet got astronaut’s signatures on casts, but it really happened to Tommy Jackson, 11-year old son of Mr. and Mrs. Wilton Jackson, and here he rather bashfully shows off the signatures and cast to prove it. Tommy attended the reception for the three astronauts in Boise April 30 with his father, and two of the famous men, Ron Evans and Jack Schmit gave him their autographs -- on his cast. The third, Captain Cernan, wasn’t around at the moment, but ex-governor of Idaho Don Samuelson signed the cast to make it a valued keepsake long after the cast has done its duty. Tommy broke his leg in a skiing accident shortly before the astronauts visit. The group attended classes at the high school, saw a gold mine, went through a lumber mill and plywood plant, and took a trip up to Anthony Lakes. Besides this there was a pot luck dinner, a dance and se veral parties for the students to go to. Christian stayed with the Lloyd Dingers who host the Baker AFS student. District Garden Club Meet ing was held in NyssaSaturday, April 7 in the Fellowship Hall of the Methodist Church. Town and Country Garden Club was the host club with registration and coffee from 9 30 to 10:00 a.m. Velma Stam, District Direc tor, presided over the business meeting. Newly elected officer* for the coming year are Mrs. John stam - Disti let Dtraetoi. Mrs. JohnStubstad - Assistant Director; and Mrs. AdamFocht - Secretary-Treasurer. Following the noon luncheon served by the Methodist Guild ladies, Lucas Gierya, exchange student living with the Paul Kunkel family, gave a very in teresting talk on his country, Brazil. This was followed l \ a question and answer period. Ontario Garden Club will host the next spring district meeting. Eighteen members and 47 guests were present for the affair which included dinner and entertainment by three young ladies who had partici pated in the Miss TVCC page ant. Mrs. Dorotha Wolfe and her special committees are com pleting plans for the Utah-Idaho Division meeting to be held in Ontario on May 18 and 19. Spe cial guest at the meeting will be Miss Muriel Swayte, CI’S, International Membership Committee, from the Denver Chapter, who will present a membership seminar.
