AlfredSimpson, Alene and Johnnie andScott Gil lette of Ontario went to Gresham Tuesday morning. They spent that night with Mr. and Mrs. Raymond Simpson. Wednesday they visited in Albany and at tended the funeral of Mrs. Alta Fenn, sister of Mrs. Carl Fenn of Newell Heights. They re turned to Vancouver that eve ning where they stayedwith Mr. and Mrs. Bill Hold! and family and also visited Mr. and Mrs. Donald Fenn at Milwaukie. They returned home Thursday eve ning. Others attending the fu neral services were Mr. and Mrs. Howard Fenn of the Owy hee Junction, Mrs. Carl Fenn. Mrs. Rollo Fenn, Mr. and Mrs. Gene Simpson, Mr. and Mrs. Wesley Waler, Carlene Savage and Elsmore Fenn of Homedale. Mrs. John Fahrenbruch and Mrs. Dale Witt visited Mrs. Lydia Worden Saturday after noon. Mrs. Norman Cutler is in the Holy Rosary Hospital In On tario. She had surgery Friday morning and is improving. Hill were Sunday dinner guests of Mr. and Mrs. Carl Lee Hill and family. Mr. and Mrs. Lester Auker and family of Salt Lake, Utah came Saturday and got the for mer's mother, Mrs, Mary Auker and spent the day with Mr. and Mrs. Ernest Smith In Nyssa. Don Llndville were her sister, Mr. and Mrs. Joe Airman G«n« Cruson SAN ANTONIO-Airman Gene D. Cruson, son of Mr. andMrs. Douglas E. Cruson of Rt. 2, Nyssa has been assigned to Keesler AFB, Miss., after com pleting Air Force basic train ing. During his six weeks at the Air Training Command’s Lack land AFB, Tex., he studied the Air Force mission, organi zation andcustoms and received special instruction inhuman re lations. The airman has been assigned to the Technical Training Center at Keesler for speciali zed training in communi- catlons-electronics systems. Airman Cruson, a 1972 gra duate of Nyssa High School, attended Treasure ValleyCom- munlty College. The Adrian Elementary School Chess players who par ticipated in the Region No. 11 Oregon State Junior Chess Tournament at Eastern Oregon College tn La Grande last week Dan Chaney was second place end were first place winners in Individual winner with 15 1/2 the team championship games with 12 points out of 20. Dates for preliminary rodeos and the Campionship State Fi nals have been set by the Ore gon High School Rodeo Asso ciation. All rodeos during the 1973 season will be open to the en tire membership with all pre liminary rodeos being one go and the Finals a two go and top ten finals competition. First preliminary rodeo of the season will be held May 12 and 13 at John Day with the contest being sponsored by the Grant County High School Ro deo clubs. The two afternoon performances will begin at 2 p.m. with a dance being held on Saturday night. Stock will be furnished by Gibbs Stock Co. Action will be seen at Nyssa on May 26 and 27 with Satur day's performance beginning at 8 p.m. and Sundays at 2. This rodeo will be sponsored jointly by the Nyssa High School Ro deo Club and the Nyssa Horse Council, Third, and last, preliminary rodeo scheduled to this date will be held June 2nd and 3rd at Vale with Saturday evening and Sunday afternoon shows scheduled. Sponsored by the Vale Rodeo Board, the group will be assisted by the Vale Rodeo Club. The stock of Ralph Stephens will be used for both the Nyssa and Vale rodeos. Four performances are sche duled for the State Champion ship Finals to be held at Burns July 5th through Sth. Stock will again be furnished by Ralph Stephens. The Burns-Hines Rotary Club will sponsor the State Fi nals which will also include the selection of the OHSRA Queen for 1973-74. Oregon High School Rodeo, which had a membership of 262 young people in 1972, features rodeo events for both boys and girls of high school age. These events include bull riding, bareback, saddle bronc, steer wrestling, calf roping, boy’s and girl’s cow cutting, team ro ping which can feature teams of boy/boy, boy/girl, or girl/girl, pole bending, barrel racing, goat tying, breakaway roping, and the Queen competition. At each of the rodeos prizes will be awarded through fourth place, plus all around awards. In addition, the top four in each event at the State Finals will become eligible for the National For Information concerning membership in the OHSRA, con tact Harold Thompson, Adams, Oregon. Outdoorsmen Schedule Meet The April meeting of the Eastern Oregon Outdoorsmen is scheduled for 8 p.m., Monday, April 9, at the Boulevard Grange, near Cairo Junction. The meeting will feature the first reading of the club’s pro posed constitution and by-laws, which will detail the organi zation of the EOO, according to acting Vice-president Glenn Marcum of Nyssa. An appointed nominating- membership committee will of fer its recommendations for club officers to the general membership. In addition, a financial report of the club will be made by Alvin Griffin, acting treasurer. EOO committees, representing the clubs varied outdoor interests, will make re ports on formation and objec tives of the committees for the next coming months. According to Jerry Hansen, actiqg president of the EOO, "the growth of the organiza tion is gratifying. Family mem bership has been growing stea dily, reflecting Interest by lo cal sportsmen. We have still not reached the point, in member ship, where we have grown comfortable. Anyone interested in outdoor recreation and con servation needs to be informed and involved in guiding re source management decisions. We have a need for such out- doorsmen and their families in our county-wide club,"accord ing to Jerry Hansen. Membership is encouraged from Ontario, Vale and Nyssa as well as the other outlying communities of the county. If you are not yet a member and curious about the club and what it will be Involved with, stop by and get acquainted. We hope you and ycur family will choose to join. Refreshment and pie will be served at this April meeting. Preview Davs At C of I Campus Preview Days for high school seniors will beheld April 12, 13, and 14 at the Col lege of Idaho, according to Ri chard Winder, Director of Ad missions. The preview days will include pre-registeratlon for fall se mester; special lectures; ad visory sessions, a faculty-stu dent reception; C of I varsity baseball, planetarium shows, a concert by the College stage band, and coffeehouse enter tainment. All students interested in learning more about the Col lege of Idaho are encouraged to attend. Housing will be pro vided in theCollege dormitories at no charge. The only cost to the participants will be the purchase of their meals. OF INSURANCE INCLUDING FARM Vale Ontario Nyssa 372 3162 NEWSMEN AND BLM OFFICIALS made a stop at the Rome airstrip, an old World War II field used by gunnery and bombing crews in the early 40's. BLM officials took their guests out into the desert for a picnic lunch, and to show them first-hand the habitat ot the wild horses now under BLM jurisdic tion, all part of a day-long trip to Southern Malheur County last Thursday. Flying home, the BLM guests were treated to a spectacular flight up the Owyhee Gorge and Owyhee Lake, with scenes like these at every turn.
