Thursday, April 5, 1973 NEWS EROM BIG BENI) BY GOLD« ROBERTS BIG BENI) - Mr. and Mrs. Horae* Ctianeyand Rosalie, Mr. and Mrs. Dallas Chaney and family, Mrs. Shirley Jensen and family drove to Caldwell Sunday afternoon where they were met by Mr. and Mrs. Don Kadel and family and all went to see the new home the Horace Chaneys have purchased in Caldwell on Canyon Hill. Mrs. Erie Mausling was rushed to the Malheur Memorial Hospital in Nyssa early Sa turday morning where she re ceived emergency treatment for a blocked vein in her leg. Mrs. Don Roberts entertained with a kitchen shower for Nancy Roberts Saturifay eveningather home. There were 16 friends and relatives attending. Mr. and Mrs. Leroy Bennett called on Harvey Bennett and Mrs. Oscar Schafer in the Cald well Memorial Hospital Sunday afternoon. Later they visited Leonard Carter in the Caldwell Convalescent Center. Mrs. Dyre Roberts was lun cheon guest of Mrs. Sharon Krause in Ontario Thursday. Later she called on Mr. and Mrs. Delno Brock. Mrs. Harvey Bennett drove Mr. and Mrs. Ivor Peterson of Adrian to Caldwell Thurs day afternoon where they cal led on Harvey Bennett and Mrs. Oscar Schafer in the hospital. Mrs. Jerry Brewer did sub stitute teaching in Adrian Grade School Monday and Tuesday. Mr. and Mrs, la-onard Abbott of Roswell were Monday supt>er guests of Mr. and Mrs. C. K. Smith. Mr. and Mrs. Dick Bennett had as Sunday dinner guests Mr. and Mrs. EarlCheetum and family of Ontario and Mrs. Har vey Bennett. Mr. and Mrs. Jim Thomas of Ridgeview called on Mr. and Mrs. Dick Davis Thursday eve ning. Mrs. Earle Mauslingattended the wedding of Lois Jewett and Don Nolen in Caldwell March 24. Mrs. Dyre Roberts ac companied Mrs. Harvey Bennett to Caldwell Wednesday where they called on Harvey Bennett at the Hospital, l^ter they visi ted Mrs. Anna Hamilton and Mrs. Don Hamilton at the Don Hamilton home in Caldwell. Mr. and Mrs. Bill Blevins of rural Caldwell called on Mrs. Edythe Prosser and Mr. and Mrs. C. K. Smith Friday. Mrs. Alan Bennett was called to Vale Tuesday for jury duty. Mr. and Mrs. Stan Thomas entertained with a family birth day party Sunday afternoon for their daughter, Toshia's fir-It birthday. Guests were Mr. and Mrs. Ralph Thomas of Roswell, Mr. and Mrs. Geral Thomas and family of Parma. G. 4-H Club met at the home of Mrs. Elvin Ballou, Friday, March 30. Sharon Dail and Joy Ballou made Apple Crisp. Angie Stam, Melanie Martin and Kaylene Robbins did an experiment about measuring flour sifted and un sifted. Then Angie set the table. The ladies are the former Phyllis and Laura May Bockus who lived and at tended school in Big Bene a number of years ago. Mr. and Mrs. Lester Hill and family of Boise were Sunday dinner guests of Mr. and Mrs. Varner Hopkins. Mrs. Pearle Abbott, Rick and Bobbi of Homedale were Sun day guests of Mr. and Mrs. C. K. Smith. Mrs. Boyce Van DeWater is staying in Boise this week with the Dick Reed family while Mrs. Reed u out of state on business. Susan Carroll of Sunset Val- lety was a Saturday overnight guest of Kelly Allsop. Sunday afternoon Kelly and Scott Al- sop visited with the Carroll family at the Dyre Roberts home. Mark Mausling and Kenny Lawrence completed the Na tional Gun Safety Class in Parma this week. Mr. and Mrs. Billy Willis and daughter of Boise called on Mr. and Mrs. James McGinnis Sunday afternoon. Also calling on the McGinnis’ were Mr. and Mi j. Tom Ferguson of Apple Valley. Mrs. Harvey Bennett and Dick called on Harvey in theCaldwell Hospital Monday afternoon. They report him somewhat im proved. Verl Bishop became ill Sa turday night and was taken to the Holy Rosary Hospital inOn- tario where he is undergoing observation and treatment. Mrs. Betty Samer accom panied Mr. and Mrs. Burton Barnes of Newell Heights and their guests to the Bruneau Sand TXpies Sunday. p WILSON'S FOR Mr. and Mrs. John Cooper celebrated their 40th wedding anniversary April 1, 1973 at the home of their daughter, Mr. and Mrs. Ronald Green in Weiser. The couple was married April 1, 1933 m Linnus, Missouri. Hosting the reception were their children, Mr. and Mrs. Ronald Green of Weiser, Mr. and Mrs. Victor Webster of Ontario, Mr. and Mrs. Kirk Hill and Mr. and Mrs. Wayne Cooper both of Nyssa. Those children unable to at tend were Mr. and Mrs. Lloyd Cooper of Vale; Mr. and Mrs. Floyd Cooper of Broadbent, Oregon, Mr. and Mrs. Billy Roberts of Union, Oregon and Mrs. Harry Eggers of Ontario. Mrs. Oscar Schafer who has been in the Caldwell Hospital went to her sister Dorothy Kin- dall’s home in Caldwell, Monday where she will spend several days. Exten sion meeting in Vale. Mr. and Mrs. K. I. Peterson visitt-d Mr. Harvey Bennett at the hospital in Caldwell. He expects to be able to come home In a few days. Mrs. George DeHaven went to Ontario Thursday and she and her daughter, Carol Skerjanec went to Weiser and visited Mrs. Herb Thomas and Mrs. Ida Wyman. Mr. and Mrs. Noel Tuppeny called on Mr. and Mrs. Ben Dalberg in Nampa Sunday. They also called on Harvey Bennett. She informed me that I reminded her of a white side wall tire. I figured that she may have a point there so I decided to get some cash from my wife and get a hair cut. Actually get ting a hair cut ain’t so bad. It doesn't hurt like getting a tooth pulled, but it is easy to put off getting the head scal ped for another day. After all hair doesn’t grow all that fast, but if put off for several weeks a person can get to lookin’ ra ther shabby. Anyhow the main point of my mentioning the bar ber’s shop is because that’s where we settled the Vietnam fracus. Now that we got the thing wound down and our prisoners returned to us just what's go ing to happen'' We didn’t crawl to them and beg them to re turn our men to us. Instead we bombed hell out of the country with a promise to really let them have it if they didn’t shape up. Finally we’re out, but now what? Will the North and the South go at it again with hammer and tongs? The answer to that one was. "Probablv yes.’’ Really why should they do otherwise? War has been a way of life in that part of the world for centuries. It’s almost a cinch that if North Vietnam doesn’t head south, South Vietnam will take their hesitancy as a show of weakness and strike out north ward. Their individual stren gths won’t be greatly consi dered. The only thing that will count is their willingness to get off the farm and have a brawl. Will the United States re construct North Vietnam? The administration may want to. You and I don’t know just what, if anything, was promised for the release of our men, but Con gress fearing the wrath of the voter will vote to not recon struct. Of course we’ll have a dandy out because the two fac - tions will heat up the cooled off rhubarb and we can say, "as long as you insist in tearing things to pieces it would be just plain foolish for us to rebuild anything.” The big point is that the war is at long last over and we had a strong feeling that it’s going to stay that way. 1 came away from the barber feeling re freshed in more ways than one. It would sure save the United States a lot of trouble if Con gressmen got their hair cuts in New Meadows. Mr. and Mrs. Tony Pittz of the Owyhee Junction visited Mr. and Mrs. Paul Gehrke Sunday afternoon. Mr. and Mrs. Andrew Nedrow of Baker were Monday over night guests of his brother, Mr. and Mrs. Ed Nedrow.
