February 17 in Ontario. Nyssa area boys, members of the Ore-Ida Club, were trophy winners as follows: Sherman Takatori, 4th place trophy in the 11-12 year old heavyweight. Kerry Barker, 3rd place trophy in the 11-12 year old middleweight. Colin Takatori, 1st place in the 13-14 year old lightweight, Sachio Hori, 4th place in the 13-14 year old lightweight divi sion. ONTARIO PLANS TO AID HANDICAPPED The ‘‘Socialization pro gram,” a project for the men tally retarded and physically handicapped of the area, started recently at the Aiken School in Ontario. The program is sponsored by the Civitans, the Family Ser vices center in Ontario and the Treasure Valley Association for Handicapped and Retarded Children. Aim of the Socialization pro gram according to Dave Dun ham, chairman of the commit tee which will work with the handicapped, is to establish a regular social program for handicapped persons of all ages in this area. To be included are programs involving gymnasium activities, arts and crafts, camping, hik ing, swimming and others which further the development of skills among those in this group. The Socialization program is expected to be a beginning step for the rehabilitation of retar ded people prior to the opening of a Sheltered Workshop which is now in the planning stage. Dunham says anyone interes ted in the Civitan sponsored program is invited to talk with personnel at the Family Ser vices Center at 889-9167. Generally by theendof March mating is over for the year and the birds disperse back to in dividual home ranges to set up housekeeping. All is again silent on the strutting grounds with only a few feathers left behind as evidence of the age- old mating ritual. Biologists advise persons in terested in witnessing this springtime phenomenon towear warm clothing because it can be mighty cold during frosty daybreak hours on these open flats. Many strutting grounds are also located at fairly high elevations. Spectators are also urged not to approach too clo sely or to stroll out across the ritual grounds. Such action will only spook the big grouse, for cing them from the area. Spectators should take field glasses and camera and do their viewing and picture-taking from reasonable distance. Although numerous strutting grounds are located throughout eastern Oregon, three of the larger ones are Ruckles Creek located on Virtue Flats near Baker, Sagehen Flats located west of Hurns, andOreanoCan- yon Flats west of Frenchglen. Information on these and other sites may be obtained from game biologists at Baker, John Day.
