Personal Representative TOURIST INDUSTRY IN IDAHO BIG BUSINESS Tourists in Idaho spent over $200 million in the state during 1972, the Department of Com merce and Development re ported. Travel ranks third as an Idaho industry and is per haps Idaho’s ‘cleanest’ indus try. It’s growth does not require the expansion of municipal faci lities, utilities or schools. Tou rists spend money for food, lod ging, gasoline, services, re creation and merchandise, create thousands of jobs, in crease the sales tax revenue, help to improve highways through their gas tax contri butions. Department travel figures for 1972, Indicate that Idaho re ceives a return of $870 00 for Dates Set For 1973 Hunting Except for Roosevelt elk, Oregon hunters will have simi lar opening dates for the 1973 hunting seasons as they did in 1972, according to regulations adopted by the Game Commis sion Friday, January 5, follow ing a public hearing at its Port land headquarters. Deer hunters will kick off the 1973 buck deer season on October 6, with the same date set for the opening of the chu lear partridge season. Opening date for Rocky Mountain elk is October 27 and that for Roose velt elk November 17, the latter season one week later than usual. The primary reason for delaying the Roosevelt elk sea son is the possibility that the black-tailed deer season maybe extended later in November than normal. Bow hunters will be gin the early archery hunts on August 25. The season for phea sants and quail was set to open October 20. The Commission also advised nimrods that the antelope season will probably open on August 18 although the date was not adopted as final. Length of seasons, bag limits, and other regulations for 1973 will be established at a public hearing in May for big game animals and in early August for upland game birds and wa ter fowl. $100.00 WEEKI Y PO6SIBLE addressing mall tor firms- Full and part time at home- EXCELl ENT, EFFICIENT AND Send stamped self-addressed economical, that’s Blue envelope to HOME WORK OP Lustre carpet and upholstery PORT UNITIES, Box 544, Rui cleaner. Taxes build schools, highways and provide other governmental services. If the travel industry did not exist, Idaho tax payers would have to increase their tax pay ments substantially to replace the revenue now contributed by travelers to our state. In 1972, 12% of Idaho’s civi lian employment was engaged in services catering to travelers. Employment in travel-related businesses experience a four- percent average increase dur ing the tourist season. This travel industry employment has risen four percent on a yearly average, since 1960. In round numbers this means that some 52,000 people in Idaho are en gaged in travel or travel re lated businesses. In August, the 1973 National Boy Scout Jamboree will be held at Farragut State Park in North Idaho. At that time ap proximately 35,000 BoyScouts from all over the U. S. will be spending an estimated $20.00 each in Idaho while traveling to and from Farragut Park. An estimated 20,000 parents and interested tourists will also attend, spending an average of $15.00 per person per day in the state. The Department of Com merce and Development pre dicts a considerable increase in tourist travel in Idaho in 1973, as Idaho continues its efforts to increase its share of the $105 billion dollar tra vel and recreation business of the United States.
