The dates will be adopted following a pub lic hearing at theCommission’s Portland headquarters, 1634 SW Alder. The hearing will con vene at 10 a.m. According to McKean, the staff will propose the follow ing dates as openers for the 1973 seasons. For the general deer season the staff will re comm en a October 6 and the same date will be suggested for the opening of the chukar Opening date propo- season, sed for Rocky Mountain elk is October 27 and that for quail and pheasants, October 20. Au gust 25 is the proposed date for early archery seasons. McKean advised that the staff will propose November 24 as the opening date for the Roo sevelt elk season, almost two weeks later than usual. The pur pose behind this recommenda tion is the possibility of ex tending the season on black tailed deer to around mid-No- vember. Also, some Roosevelt elk rutting was noted during the first week of the 1972 season. No other substantive changes are proposed, with most open ing dates similar to the 1972 seasons except for adjustments to begin the seasons on week ends. All interested persons are invited to attend the meeting and comments and suggestions are solicited. Recommenda tions for opening dates may be submitted to the Commission in writing or may be presented orally at the hearing.
