Thursday, December 14, 1972 The Nyssa Gate City Journal, Nys.a, Oregon American Independent Party To Be Organized James Shurtliff, actlng- Chairman in Malheur County for the American Independent Party, announced today,“plans are now underway for the or ganizing of the American In dependent Party here in Oregon Ixdh for the state and county |, vel We heartily extend ■ welcome to all patriotic Ameri cans to become acquainted with us and to become familiar with the pledge that we offer to all people of this nation.” The Party’s candidate for President of the United States in the recent elections was Congressman John G. Schmitz of California — truly a de dicated American who has fought an endless battle inCon gress in defending and upholding the rights guaranteed to us in the Constitution of the United slut. . Because of his belief in conservative governmental policies. Congressman Schmitz was selected by the American Independent Party to be their candidate to run for the Presi dency. His platform represent ing the Party’s beliefs was sum med up in two succinct sen tences. Domestic Policy- Those who work should live better than those who won’t. Foreign Po licy: Don’t go to war unless you intend to win. “Yet how many people in America had even heard of this candidate or of the platform that the Ameri can Independent Party offered?" asked Mr. Shurtliff.
