Th« Nyssa Gat« City Journal, Nyssa, Or«gon Pag« Eight Fire Destroys 14,080 Acres A total of ten Snake River Valley Fire crews were dis patched from the Vale Bureau of Land Management office, June 23 at 8 p.m. to a fire located about seven miles south of Rome in southern Malheur County. The fire, called the Winter Field Fire, consumed 14,080 acres of native range grasses and brush. Two Homedale crews, four from Nyssa, one each from Vale and Marsing and two from On tario were dispatched to the fire along with six BLM pumper crews. A total of 14,000 gallons of retardant were dropped on the fire by planes out of the Boise Inter-Agency Fire Cen ter, along with 8,500 gallons of water. Fire bosses were Jerry Wil cox and Dave Hawk. Fifty fire personnel also fought the fire. H. Panike, president of the Malheur County Legume Seed Growers Association. The group sponsors a tour for the growers and others interested in seed production each year. The five day excursion will start on July 24 and end in Boise on July 28. Arrange ments have been made for a spe cial bus for the trip.
