Harry Miner, was introduced and received as a member by affiliation. Worthy Patron Ray Bacon presided during Good of the Order. Under escort of Mar shall, our new member was es corted to station of Warden, by Associate Patron and Worthy Patron and informed of his several duties. Worthy Patron, with assis tance of Conductress, Asso ciate ConductressandStar Point gave an addendum preceding our re-obligation ceremony. Myrtle Sasser reported on her trip to Vale for Golden Chain Chapters, friendship night. Amalia Pratt reported on her trip to Star Chapter, Ontario. It was announced that a special meeting for Stardusters will be held Monday, January 24 at 8 p.m. in the Masonic Hall. Following the meeting re freshments were served by Roy and Marie Holmes and Eva Chadwick. Mr. and Mrs. Elmer R. Wood, were honored on their 40th wedding Anniversary, at an open house held January 2, 1972 at their home, Route 3, Parma, Idaho. The event was hosted by their children, Mrs. Margaret Wood, Marsing; Mr. and Mrs. Lloyd Wood, Nyssa; Mr. and Mrs. Leonard Wood, Kirkland, Wash ington; Floyd Wood, Marsing; and Roger Wood, stationed in Germany. A two-tiered white wedding cake decorated with sugar bell, white roses and silver leaves and a cut glass punch bowl graced the reception table. The cake was cut and served by Mrs. Leonard Wood. Pre siding at the punch bowl was Mrs. Margaret Wood. Mrs. Lloyd Wood poured the coffee. Assisting with the serving was granddaughter, Janell Woodand Miss Becky Paul. Sherri Wood, granddaughter, registered the guests. Elmer R. Wood and Noma Leona Reece were married De cember 23, 1931 at Biggs, Mis souri. They farmed in the To paz, Vanzant and Fiddlesprings area in Missouri. They moved to Roswell, Idaho April 2, 1941 and farmed there until moving to the Big Bend area, December of 1949. They have farmed in the area since and are still very active in farming. All of their children with the exception of Roger (in Ger many) were in attendance: Ja- nell, Sherri, Mark and Brenda Wood of Marsing; Larry, Robin, Michael and Scott of Nyssa. Out of town guests were Mrs. Hope Scott of Caldwell; Mr. and Mrs. Bill Scott, and Miss Becky Paul of Wilder; Mr. and Mrs. Elden Wood of Payette; Mrs. Clarence Lancaster of Nyssa. SENIOR CITIZEN ACTIVITIES Members of the Book Club met January 15 at the home of Mrs. Delbert Poor. There were 11 present for the 1:30 dessert. Rebekah Lodge Holds Installation Ceremony The Yellow Rose Rebekah Lodge met at the IOOF Hall January 11 with Noble Grand Nellie Jenkins presiding. Fif teen members answered roll call. An installation of officers was held. Installing officer was Emily Clapp, district deputy president. She was assisted by Merle Johnson, deputy mar shall; Nita Mae Wiley, deputy warder; Beulah Gann, deputy secretary-treasurer; Virginia Rookstool, past noble grand; Rose Toombs, deputy chaplain; Verna Martin, installing musi cian; Blanche Weeks, deputy guardian. The elected officers installed were Hazel Farr, noble grand; Leona Reeves, vice grand; Louise Wernick, secretary; Wilma Ostrom, treasurer. Starduster OES met January 10 at the home of Mrs. Kath leen Wheeler. Mrs. Amalia Pratt, president, presided over the business meet ing. Twelve members answered roll call. A final report on the bazaar was given by Kathleen Wheeler, chairman and Vera Paulus, treasurer. A special meeting will be held January 24 at the Masonic Hall at 8 p.m. The members will make Valentine Day favors for the Malheur Nursing Home and for shut-ins. The group discussed plans for making pin-on’s and tray favors for the Masonic Home at Forest Grove, Ore. These are to be ready for mailing by May 1. The next meeting will be held at the home of Myrtle Sasser Feburary 14. Appointive officers installed were Emily Clapp, right sup porter and Virginia Rookstool, left supporter to noble grand; Bertha Rudelick, right sup porter and Nita Mae Wiley, left supporter to vice grand; Merle Johnson, warder; Beulah Gann, conductor; Blanche Weeks, in- GRANGE SPONSORS PANCAKE FEED The Oregon Trail Grange will sponsor a pancake supper this Saturday, January 22, at the Oregon Trail Hall, starting at 5 p.m. They will be serving sour dough and regular pancakes, whole hog sausage, eggs and coffee. Adult tickets are $1.25, children 6-12 65?, family ticket $5.00 and children under 5, free. Everyone is cordially invited to come and enjoy a good pancake feed. BOOK CLUB FRIENDSHIP CIRCLE The Nyssa Senior Citizens will meet Wednesday, January 26, in the social room of the United Methodist Church at 10:30 a.m. Those attending are asked to bring a sack lunch. Friendship Circle met at the home of Beulah Gann January 14. Nineteen members answered roll call and there was one guest, Mrs. Walt Looney and son. The business meeting was conducted by Merle Johnson, president. Two members, Mrs. Lyda Kohl and Mrs. Myra Rasmus sen are reported in nursing homes. After the meeting, five tables of bunco were in play. Prize winners were Harriett Warren, high; Orma Cleaver, low; Karen Ziegenbein, traveling. Refreshments were served by Beulah Gann and Leona Reeves. The next meeting will be held February 4 at 2 p.m. at the home of Mrs. Ida Walters. Mr. and Mrs. Carl L. Brooks of Tehachapi, Calif., announce the engagement of their daughter, Jeri, to Pete Smit, son of Mr. and Mrs. Sam Smit of Nyssa. Miss Brooks is a graduate of Tehachapi High School and attended Fresno Technical Col lege. She worked in Tehachapi at the Correctional Institution and the First Western Bank. Currently she is employed as a stewardess for United Air PINOCHLE PARTY Lines, stationed in Chicago. Father James Maloney will perform the cere Toastmistress Club mony. Marriage Announced The Treasure Valley Toast mistress Club met at the Nyssa Library meeting room, Thurs day January 14. Adrienne Kunkel was toast mistress; Margaret Gough, topic mistress; Mary Greenway, lexicologist; Mae Schlreman, won the table topic award. Toastmistress Club is open to all women who wish to “relate, educate, and communicate.” Those interested are invited to call Mae Schlreman at 372-3014 for reservations. Mr. and Mrs. Bill Crosby of Corvallis, Oregon, announce the marriage of their daughter Susan, to Douglas Gyllenskog, son of Mr. and Mrs. Read Gyl lenskog of Nyssa. The couple were married December 18, 1971 at the Rode- wav Inn in Boise by Bishop Durtche of Boise. Susan is employed at the Bu reau of Mines and Douglas is attending Link’s School of Bu siness. The newlyweds are making their home in Boise. PANCAKE SUPPER Thursday, January 20, 1972 ANK Garden Club side guardian; Verna Martin, musician; Nellie Jenkins, past noble grand; Rose Toombs, color bearer. District Deputy President Emily Clapp and staff will in stall Rebekah officers in Vale January 18 and in Ontario Jan. 19. A gift from the Lodge was presented to out going Noble Grand Nellie Jenkins. She pre sented each of her officers for the year of 1971,a gift. Refreshments were servedby all members present. The next meeting will be held January 25 at the IOOF Hall. ASTORECAS RETURN AFTER LONG TRIP by Martha Lorensen. The ANK Garden Club met Tuesday January 11 at the home of Mrs. Blake Lowell in Ros well. Mrs. Elton McCormick of Parma was co-hostess for the 1:30 dessert luncheon. There were 16 members pre sent and they voted to send $10 for the Korean Project of World Gardening. This has been a project of the club for the past several years. The committee voted to meet at the home of Mrs. Adam Focht in the near future, to make 400 sand candles to be used as favors at the State meeting, which will be held at TVCC in June. Mrs. Gertrude Johnson of Parma gave an interesting pro gram on Ecology. The next meeting will be held February 8 at the home of Mrs. Frank Morgan in Nyssa. MUSIC TEACHERS Mr. and Mrs. Gabriel As- toreca, and daughters, Audrie and Carmen returnedon Thurs day from an 18 day vacation trip which covered approxima tely 6000 miles. Leaving their home on Dec. 27 in the family car, they ar rived at the home of Mrs. As- toreca’s brother, Mr. and Mrs. Gene Nelson at Springfield, Mo. on December 29. On Thursday they drove to Willow Springs, Missouri and visited Mrs. As- toreca’s father, Walter Nelson and family. New Year’s Day found them at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Harold Ferguson, who will be remembered here as former residents of Juntura and Vale areas. They are close friends of the Astorecas . They visited at the home of their aunt, Mr. and Mrs. L. Fox. Visited an uncle, Charles Nelson, and also a cousin, Mr. and Mrs. Herbert Nelson of Peoria, Illinois whom they had not seen for around 25 years. They also visited a cousin, Mr. and Mrs. Gordon Carson in Illinois. January 3 was spent at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Roy Lowe. They visited at the home of another cousin, the Loren Hall family. They also visited at the home of Mrs. Astorecas’ mother, Mr. and Mrs. Harvey Berry at Kimber- ling City, Missouri. Mr. and Mrs. Berry joined them and accompanied them through Arkansas, Oklahoma, Texas, and New Mexico and as far as Santa Rosa, California where a daughter of the Berry’s has her home. Leaving the Berrys’ the Astorecas drove to Sacramento area where they visited Mrs. Astorecas’s bro ther, Mr. and Mrs. Elliot Nel son. Thursday they started for Nyssa and arrived home that evening. The family stated that they found the roads good most all the way and the wea ther also not bad at any time. The ranch was maintained by Duane Smith during their ab sence. TO MEET JAN. 21 The Snake River Valley Music Teachers Association will meet Friday, Jan. 21 at 10 a.m. at the home of Mrs. Allen Killer, 2.7 miles east of Palisade’s Junction on Highway 30. If further directions are needed, call 278-5588. The program will be “Teach ing Ideas,” to be shared at a round table discussion. Please bring yours ! High honors went to Mrs. Frank Morgan with Mrs. Ted Morgan taking second high. * * * Mr. and Mrs. T. H. Eldredge hosted the Mr. and Mrs. Bridge Club January 15. Refreshments of cake and ice cream was served in honor of Howard Myricks birthday anniversary. Mr. and Mrs. Bob Wilson entertained the Couple’s Bridge Club Sunday evening. Guest players were Mr. and Mrs. Don Oldemeyer. Women’s high score went to Mrs. Wilson and Bill Morrison received high score for the men. STUDENTS ENJOY PLAY PARTY Piano students of Mrs. Elvin Ballou took part in a “Play Party” Monday, Jan. 10, held at the Ballou home. It was an informal gathering and the children played songs they had memorized,for their mothers. Those participating were: Ka thy Haburchak, Joy Ballou, Tim and Dan Tarter, Sheila John son, Margie Sells, Mike and Angie Stam, and Tina Hamil ton. A large part of the member ship attended and there were two guests. After a delicious dessert lun cheon, the president presented Mrs. Max Urry of the Nyssa Library, who brought garden books and gave a talk on the many ways the Library helps the community. The women examined the books and gained much information on different techniques of gardening of wild, as well as cultivated plants.
