Many cases of accidental death have occurred as a result of intentional and malicious da mage to electrical system equ ipment. A bullet smashing into an insulator may cut loose a power line and bring death to the person who fired the gun. A broken high-voltage power line does not even have to make a direct hit on a human being to cause death by electrocution. The tragedies resulting from vandalism are isolated cases, but costs from damage to po wer lines continue to mount. Bonneville Power Administra tion reported that for the 12 months ending June 30, 1971, damages to the BPA system am ounted to $85,264.
