Nyssa took an early lead, scoring 23 points in the first quarter to Vallivue’s 14 and expanded the gap to 44-23 at halftime. Cold in the third quarter, Nyssa still led 56-50 at the end of the third quarter, and went on to win easily. The Bulldogs hit a torrid 47% from the floor, and scored 10 points on 15 Falcon fouls. On the other hand Vallivue shot a cold 30% from the floor, but managed 21 points from the foul line. Greg Blanch led the Bulldog scoring with 19, Felipe Mar tinez had 17, Ron Moffis 13, Dave Manley 9, Paul Trost 5, Scott Engstrom 4, Steve Ross 4, Dan Nichols 3, Keith Olde meyer and Rick Chester 2 each. McMillan of Vallivue led all scorers with 22, followed by Smith 11, Christensen 10, Rule 9, Pfeifer 3, and Schneider 2. The Nyssa JV squad scored an overwhelming 78-32 victory over Vallivue. Jim Savage, Nyssa, has been selected to train the All-Army European Wrestling team in preparation for the All-Army Tournament in the United States. Savage re-entered the Army in March, 1970 and was assigned to the 16th Signal Battalion, 7th Signal Brigade upon his arrival in Europe last summer, but he has spent very little time with the 16th since then. He was assigned to the Celtic Football Team in August and has been training or coaching one sport or another since then. Savage has had lots of sports experience. He lettered in football, baseball and track at Nyssa High School. He was a track star at both Boise Junior College and Eastern Oregon College, where he graduated in 1969. He served as head cross country coach at Boise State, and as assistant cross country and track coach at Eastern Oregon. liams andJerry Wilson each had six points, and Engstrom’s S completed the scoring for Pat Ross and John Nyssa. Bernal also saw action in the game. As the sophomores come to the final game of the season on Wednesday night, their re cord is 19 wins and 3 losses. The game was extremely close all the way with hardly more than two points separating the teams at any time during the game. Vale led 32-30 at halftime after sharing an 18-18 tie at the first quarter mark. Nyssa’s tight defense held the Vikings to only seven shots and four points in the third quarter, while the Bulldogs picked up eight points to lead 38-36 at the end of the period. Kevin Eng strom made five points early in the fourth quarter to keep the Nyssa team in the game, while at the same time Vale scored eight points. Geren Manley’s free throw tied the game again at 44-44 with 3;35 to go. The Nyssa defense, coupled with good ball handling by Jerry Wilson and crew, kept the Vale team from scoring in the last half of the quarter, and Rod Lewis* final basket provided the winning margin. Lewis led all scorers with 19 points. Others in double figures were Hall and Moore, both from Vale and each with 11 points, and Nyssa’s Geren Manley with 10. Besides controlling the boards Martinez turned in 21 Dave points, followed by Manley with 16, Dan Nichols 10, Keith Oldemeyer 9, Greg Blanch 6, Paul Trost 5, Scott Engstrom 2, Bob Holmes 2, Ron Moffis 2, and Steve Ross 1. It was the last home game for Martinez, Manley, Olde meyer, Ross and Dellas Fred- eriksen; and they and their parents were honored in pre game festivities, and each mo ther was presented with a cor sage by the Nyssa Student Body. The Bulldogs led 14-10 at the first quarter, and widened the lead to 36-24 at halftime. At the end of the third quarter the score was 57-33 as the High landers just could not mount an offense. Lowell Williams had his best night of the season, scoring 20 points, as the Bulldog’s junior varsity team continued its win ning ways. The final score was 75-62 Nyssa over the Burns JV team. Williams was followed closely by Rod Lewis with 17, andJerry Wilson 16, Kevin Engstrom 8, Tim Lopez 4, John Bernal 3, Pat Ross 2, Reed Young 2, and Geren Manley, Nico Hopman and John Tensen, 1 each.
