Planning to play golf on the Torrey Pines Municipalcourse, they were surprised to learn that the Andy Williams San Diego Open was being played there at that time, so they took in one day of watching the pro fessional golfers they pre viously only got to see on T.V. They also visited the Lion Country Safari. To see this, you have to drive your car, with windows rolled up, through the “pastures” of all kinds of ani mals who roam about freely in a natural habitat. Animals who are ‘‘enemies” of one another are kept separate by strategi cally placed fences or water barriers. Many Safari guards in Jeeps were situated in nu merous places. One day was spent in Tijuana where there is such a distinct difference in all things between the United States and Mexico. The Bertrams started on their way home via Palm Springs where they enjoyed seeing the sunshine and the arrid climate similar to here for the first time since they had gotten into the awful smog many days pre vious at San Bernardino, upon entering the Los Angeles area. They also report they had to travel through smog and fog clear from Riverside past Sac ramento, over 400 miles, coming home. Needless to say, it was an enjoyable trip but they are glad to be back in the sun shine and clean air.
