Sharlene Kido Is Installed As Bethel # 33 Honored Queen Lowes Take Hometown News Holiday Birthday David Dail celebrated Ins ninth birthday December 23rd with a party at his home given in his honor by his sister-in- law, Mrs. Jack Dail. A beauti fully decorated cake with David’s name on it, centered the table decorated m a festive Christmas holiday decor. David’s eight friends attend ing enjoyed the games and re freshments served at the con clusion of the event. Sharlene Kido was installed as Honored Queen of Bethel #33, International Order of Job’s Daughters during a cere mony held December 27, 1970, at the Eagles Hall. Sharlene is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Hiro Kido. Prior to the installation rites, Bethel Officers marched into the room, each signed her name to the guest book and formed a heart as Mrs. Joy McPartland narrated "Youth the Heart of the World”. The girls knelt in prayer. Mrs. Robert Kido sang “My Task”. Marilee Wilson, retiring Ho nored Queen, served as instal ling officer for the evening. She was assisted by Joyce Jen nings as Guide, Susan Kouns as Marshall, JoAnn Timmer man as Chaplain, Kathy Nelson as Recorder, Jane Timmerman as Musician, Trudy Bay as Sr. Custodian, Jolene Hayaski as Jr. Custodian and Alicia Huff man who escorted the flag. Jan Saito was in charge of the guest registration. In addition to the Honored Queen, elected officers installed were Kay C La Fay, Sr. Prin cess; Marlene Jameson, Jr. Princess; Susan Davis, Guide; and Karon Rigney, Marshall. The Queen’s father presented her with a gavel, after which Bob Holmes presented Marilee Wilson a book of momentos of the past six months. Prior totheclosingceremony Marilee Wilson was invited to sign the Bible as Mrs. Robert Kido sang “Let There Be Peace”. Koreen Kido was ac companist. Out of town guests of the new Honored Queen were Robin and Tom Arima, Tami Uda, Mr. and Mrs. Tony Miyasako, all of Homedale; Mrs. Paul Yasuda of Caldwell, Mr. and Mrs. Mas Kido of Parma, and Mr. and Mrs. Bob Kido and family of Ontario. Two visitors from Homedale were Tomi Uda and Robin Arimo of Bethel #31 of Homedale, and Lisa Talbot and Vici Talbot of Bethel #27, Parma. Assisting with the serving during the reception held at the Masonic Hall were Mossie Saito, Emi Kido, Kae Saito and Chella Jamieson. Mr. and Mrs. J. ElwoodFlin- ders spent Christmas Eve and Day with the Lorin Saunders family. A highlight ofChristmas w as a buffet suppe then seeing the special lighten homes and decorations in Boise and the Highlands, Christmas evening was spent with the Gerald Flinders family in Ontario. Mrs. Tom Johnson spent Christmas vacation with her daughter, Mr. and Mrs. Pat Sweaney in Caldwell. While visiting the Sweaneys they spent Christmas Eve at the home of her granddaughter, Mr. and Mrs. Malcom Rossman in Boise They attended a family Christ- mas dinner at the home of Dallas Rogers in Caldwell. ♦ ♦ ♦ Myrtle Alexander returned home December 31 after spending the Christmas vaca tion visiting her children in California. She went to West Covina with her daughter’s fa mily, the Sam Smileys and after visiting them several days, visi ted in Chino with her oldest son, Fred and his family. She then visited her other son, Elvin and family in Englewood. * ♦ ♦ The Joe Ableman family of Cheney, Washington spent from December 25 through the 28th at the Rodney Holcomb home. They visited many of their friends while here and the Hol combs entertained at their home Saturday in honor of the Able man family and the Duane Hol comb family who were visiting here from Culver, Oregon. Dr. and Mrs. Norm Smith and family, Mike and Kristi of Tucson, visited during Christ mas at the home of Mrs. Smith’s parents, Mr. and Mrs. Irl Nolan. Dr. Smith is an instructor in Ecology at the University of Arizona. They returned home December 27. * ♦ Mr. and Mrs. Duane Holcomb and family of Culver, spent the Christmas Holiday in Nyssa at the homes of their parents, the Dale Garrisons and the Wilbur Holcombs. They also visited many of their friends and re latives while here. » * ♦ Mr. and Mrs. Dennis Forbess and daughter, Laurel of Vah- couver, Wash., spent the Christ mas week with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Richard Forbess. ♦ » ♦ Mr. and Mrs. Wayne Green of Mill Valley, Calif., returned home by jet December 26. Texas, arrived via plane to spend Christmas in Nyssa at the home of his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Lewis Riggs. Doyle Riggs of OSU in Corvallis, also spent the holiday with his parents. They were joined by Mr. and Mrs. Darrel Manning andfain.'lv of Notus for Christmas dinner at the Riggs home and to com plete the day for the family, Mr. and Mrs. Kay Riggsandfa- mily called to wish them well from Milpitas, California. ♦ ♦ ♦ Mr. and Mrs. Robert Peter son and daughter, Kristin of Ca nova Park, California, visited during the Christmas holiday in Nyssa. They stayed at the Grant Rinehart home while vi siting other relatives and friends. Mrs. Peterson will be remembered to many as Louise Tensen. * * * Mr. and Mrs. Merven Bow man and friends, Mr. and Mrs. Terrel Hartle of Boise were Tuesday visitors at the Emil Stunz home. Bowman is Mrs. Stunz’ brother. * * * Mr. and Mrs. Emmett Sappe moved to Nyssa just before Christmas from Willowcreek where they had made their home since 1937. They are the pa rents of Bud Sappe. * * * Christmas Day guests for din ner at the Lee Dail home were the Jack Dail family of Beaver ton, Oregon, and Mrs. Jack Dail’s parents, Mr. and Mrs. Joe Poole of Ontario. The Dails returned Wednesday to Beaverton where Jack is em ployed by Tetronic Corp., and also attends classes at Portland State College. * * * Christmas Eve guests at the Lee Dail home were Mr. and Mrs. W.O. Newell of Nyssa, Mr. and Mrs. James Farmer of Bil lings, and Mr. and Mrs. Jack Dail of Beavertson. * * * Orma Cleaver was a Christ mas dinner guest at the Alva Goodell home and a Christmas Eve and overnight guest at the Delbert Cleaver home. For Christmas dinner the Cleaver family was all home with the exception of Bryon who attends OSU in Corvallis. Chris Reeves was also a dinner guest. * ♦ ♦ Mr. and Mrs. Owen Gann, Mr. and Mrs. Walter Looney and sons, and Judy Stout and family of Eugene met Saturday at the home of the Gann’s daughter, Mr and Mrs. Burton Richy in Jun tura. Mrs. Richy hosted a dinner in honor of her mother’s •birthday anniversary. ♦ ♦ * Mr. and Mrs. J.E.Brower had as their New Years dinner guests Mr. and Mrs. Gary Shearer of Mountain Home and Mr. and Mrs. Woodrow Allstead of Nyssa. • * * Dinner guests at the J. Brower home January 3 were Mr. and Mrs. Gary Shearer and Gary’s parents, Mr. and Mrs. Bill Shearer of Peru, Iowa. » ♦ * Mr. and Mrs. Tommy Holman and family of Albany, ac companied by their son Brian, who was on leave from the Navy, were holiday guests at the home of Holman’s sister, Mr. and Mrs. Bob Wilson. * * * Mr. and Mrs. Bob Wilson were hosts to a Christmas din ner for the Wilson family. There were 16 Wilsons who attended the dinner. Brian Holman was also a dinner guest. * * * New Years eve guests at the Bob Wilson home were Mr. and Mrs. Tom Mitchell and Mr. and Mrs. Kai Farr of Oram, Utah. Mrs. Farr was formerly Marilyn Lewis of Nyssa. Patty Lowe returned to the home of her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Ralph Lowe, Sunday from Portland where she is a student at Northwestern College of Business. On Thursday, Patty and her parents wont to Springfield, Oregon to spendChristmas with the Lowe’s sone-in-law and daughter, M.-. and Mrs. Larry Miller. Lowe’s mother, Nina Lowe, and Mrs. Low e’s parents M». and Mrs. Bill Newell ac companied them. Mr. and Mrs. Newell went on down to Coos Bay to spend Christmas with their son and family, Mr. and Mrs. Orvis Newell. Day, Lowe’s Christmas brother and family, Mr. and Mrs. Ron Lowe of Milwaukie, spent the day. Also on Christ mas Day the Lowes and Mil lers visited Mrs. Ruth Russell, sister of Nina Lowe, and Mrs. Russell’s daughters and family in Florence, Oregon. REBEKAHS MEET Yellow Rose Rebekah Lodge #202 met December 22 with Noble Grand Virginia Rookstool presiding. Twelve members answered roll call. Introduced were District De puty President Hazel Leavitt and Lucille Prahl from the Beatrice Rebekah Lodge #82 in Ontario. Committees reported that there were four boxes of clothes sent to the State School in Nampa and two boxes to the Salvation Army. They also reported that 1460 Betty Crocker coupons were sent in to help on the pur chase of a kidney machine for the State of Oregon. Hostesses for the evening were Kathleen Wheeler and Rose Toombs. Next meeting will be heldJa- nuary 12, and will be an in stallation for new officers by the District Deputy. LEGION NEWS Past Presidents of the American Legion Auxiliary held a belated Christmas party and gift exchange Monday at the home of Mrs. Lloyd Tobler with nine members attending. Refreshments were served and members enjoyed a social hour. Betsy Stunz Calls Home On Christmas "Betsy” JoanStunz,daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Gene Stunz in Nyssa, called her family from Barcelona, Spain, Christmas Day. Betsy, who is majoring in German, is studying German, German literature and the arts in Vienna, Austria, and during the Christmas holiday season, she and a girl friend are on tour through Spain, France, Italy and Switzerland. Betsy mentioned that they had Christmas dinner with a Spanish family in Barcelona and would be in Paris for New Years. In the interest of many of Betsy’s fellow-students and friends who are visiting in Nyssa now, her address is Betsy Stunz, Bauernmarkt, 8 5 20, Vienna, Austria. Holiday Rites Unite Couple Miss Melda Williams of Cul desac, Idaho, and George Schiemer of rural Adrian were married Friday afternoon, De cember 18, 1970, at the First Christian Church in La Grande, with Rev. Gordon Mildrum of ficiating. The bride is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Ralph Williams of Culdesac, and has taught school in the La Grande school system for the past three years. The groom is the son of Mrs. Tina Schiemer, and is a successful farmer. The couple will make their home in the Newell Heights area. Dr. Howard W. Runkel, who heads the Deoartment of Rhetoric and Public Address at Willamette University.and who has been a popular favorite with over 700 audiences in the Northwest during his tenure at the Salem education institution, will be the guest speaker at the next meeting of the Knife and Fork Club at its meeting Thursday, January 7 at 7;30 p.m. at the East Side Cafe. Runkel, a native of Wisconsin, defies the tradition that all speech professors should look like somethine that suddenly emerged from behind the bookshelves of the city library after being in seculusion for several months. Instead he is a trim six foot four, looks like he might be a basketball player with tremendous finesse, has an engaging smile and magnetic persona lity. Good as he looks, persons who have heard him says he is an' even better speaker than he first appears. His address here; “The Challenge of Change,” might be of the nature that could cause his listeners to sit up and take notice. Townes Enjoy Holiday Trip Mr. and Mrs. Herman Towne returned home Thursday after spending the Christmas holi days visting their children, family, and friends. They spent 10 days on their trip making their first stop at the home of their daughter, Mr. and Mrs. David Johansen and family in Portland. On Christmas Day the Townes were joined at the Johnansenhomebv Mrs. Towne’s other daughters, Mr. and Mrs. Beaty Lay and daughters of North Bend, and Mr. and Mrs. Speed Porter and daughters of Harrisburg; Mrs. Towne’s sister, Katherine Kim mell of Phoenix; and her other sister, Iola Smith and daughter Janet of North Bend. Highlighting the Christmas day for all of the family was when they attended the First Communion Service of Laura Lay at the Holy Redeemer Feast of the Holy Family Catholic Church in North Bend. Laura, the Towne’s granddaughter is ten years old. On Sunday Mr. and Mrs. Towne went to Harrisburg to stay several days with the Por ter family and while there they visited Mrs. Towne’s sister’s family, Mr. and Mrs. George Eichner, her nephew’s family, Mr. and Mrs. Ronald Eichner and son, and niece’s family, Mr. and Mrs. James Keller and family. -- C^S^ORDER OF!
