At least 28 employees of the Amalgamated Sugar company of Nyssa, will most likely be switching their long years of sugar- making ‘jargon’ of “low raw” - “high raw” — to that of — “low score - high score” talk this processing season, the local union’s public relation director Aldo P. Sarchiapone, Fruitland, predicted today. Sarchiapone said the expected change in bull-session talk this winter is the result of a golf tournament held Friday, August 21, at the Ontario Municipal Golf course. The event, named Golferama by its originator, is the brainstorm of E.R. Del Ricks, Ontario, local union president of the American Fe deration of Grain Millers of Nyssa. As one of several golf-playing employees who enjoys playing the sport, Ricks thought other employees who have never played the game, or even held a club in their hands, may give golf a try if given the chance. So, with the help of Ernie Fisher, a fellow employee and golfer from the Parma area, the two programmed a nine-hole golfing tournament between golfers and non-golfers alike. Ricks and Fisher asked all the known company golfers to pick a golf partner from a number of non-playing employees a few days before the game and by tee-off time Friday evening, 14 teams (28 players) had ******* * w****wr* OWYHEE Carmelita Culbertson Phone 372-2646 Mr. and Mrs. C.L. Re freshments were served. Mrs. Charley Culbertson and Mrs. Earl Kygar attended the wedding of their nephew, James McClure in Boise, Saturday afternoon. They visited their brother, Mr. and Mrs. Merle McClure in Star, Idaho after the wedding. Mr. and Mrs. Robert Powell visited in Homedale Sunday with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Mike Powell and family. His sister, Mr. and Mrs. Dan Neils, from Bolder, Colo., were also there. Mr. and Mrs. Louis Stam hosted a birthday party Sunday «• ■«“ •» .A signed up to play. Sarchiapone, and Gus Kunkel. Trophies for first place winners were awarded following the match. A barbecued steak dinner prepared by Mark Hipkins, club manager and golf pro, proceeded the pre sentation of awards. The dinner, as well as golf fees, were paid for by each parti cipating player. Among those making the lowest scores were Garry Smith and Gerald Brown, with a low of 65, Tom Church and Larry Rose, a low of 75, and in third place, Dez Jones and Mural Lewis, with a close 76. A special trophy award was made to each of the two participating women players, Mrs. Zittercob and Mrs. Miner, for their good sportsmanship, and for having the fortitude to stand up and compete with 26 men golfers. Twin trophies were also presentedtoCecil Fortin and Glen Marcum for being the most even-tempered team throughout the game... MAD all the way. Del Ricks and Paul Kunkel each received an award for being the team most involved in their work and play................ all twisted up into it. Presentation of other awards, anda showing of a movie film taken at the golf tourna ment by Del Ricks will be made at a special meeting in the very near future.
