Welcome, Rockhounds! Nyssa is playing host this week to people from all over the country who are here to search for thundereggs, petrified wood, plume agates, jasper, and you name it. Local rock hounds tell us that this area has an abundance of all of these varieties of rock, and the good things that we hear from our visitors seems to bear this out. These visitors not only look for these semi-precious stones, but they bargain, trade, buy, sell and just look at what the other fellow has. We even suspect, after visiting with some of the rockhounds Tuesday evening that, like the fisherman, some tall tales get told. They are wonderful people, and they come here voluntarily to enjoy our country. Many of them heard about our Thunder egg Days from other rockhounds who have previously been here, others read about our celebration in the several lapidary magazines. We are getting on the map as the Thunderegg Capital of Oregon. We encourage Nyssa residents to get acquainted with our visitors, as we have tried to do, and you are sure to enjoy the experience. Not being rock enthusiasts ourselves, or at least not until recently, we find it fascinating to hear about the various rocks, equipment, and experiences that these people have, We are almost ready to run out and buy a new diamond saw and start cutting, that is, after we find the eggs, Come out and enjoy the barbecue tonight (Thursday). It will be some of the best pit barbecued beef you have ever tasted, and the price is reasonable. The Jaycees always do a good job in preparing and serving this delicious dinner. We suggest also that you stick around the park and visit with friends and visitors, join in the group singing, and waten the Malheur County slides that will be shown by Bob Kindschy of Vale. And by all means view the rock exhibits that will be on display at the old gym throughout the week. Wayne Moncur and the committee for Thunderegg Days has done an exceptionally good job, as always, in preparing for this event. We commend them for their hard work, and hope that everyone will partake of this most rewarding experience. We guarantee that you will have just a little bit more sense of pride in this great country in which we live. ^hies < Hearing Aids CONSULTATION FACTORY REPRESENTATIVE WILL DO FREE CLEANING AND ADJUSTING OF YOUR PRESENT HEARING AID FREE HEARING TESTS 10 A. Some radio personalities such as Los Angeles’ famous Dick Wittinghill have read it repeate dly on their radio programs. Newspapers and magazines, both religious and secular, are reprinting it. And private citi zens are copying it for dis tribution to their friends. This is what "Open Letter To Man” says; "I am a Woman. "I am your wife, your sweet heart, your mother, your daugh ter, your sister . . .your friend. I NEED YOUR HELP. "I was created to give to the world GENTLENESS, UNDER- STANDING, SERENITY, BEAUTY AND LOVE. I am finding it increasingly difficult to fulfill my purpose. This letter was written about ten years ago by songwriter Sy Miller and his wife, the former actress, Jill Jackson. ' Thursday, August 6, 1970 lation. Father Caffrey was so im pressed with the letter that he got the Millers* permission to reproduce it. From that humble grass roots beginning, “Open Letter to Man” has developed its own quiet underground move ment protesting the degradation of women as mere sex objects. Many prominent businessmen and entertainment personalities have assisted Father Caffrey in his efforts to help restore wo man’s proper image of love, beauty and dignity in our con temporary society. R.D. Funk, Managing Editor of the Santa Monica (California) Evening Outlook was among the first to tell the story of the Millers’, Father Caffrey and “Open Letter to Man” in his column. Since then the “Open Letter” has been reproduced and circulated widely in the U.S., in some foreign countries and is on its way to expanding its message of common decency throughout the world. “Open Letter to Man” is a simple, powerful message chal lenging today’s animalistic, sex- oriented image of womanhood. It’s difficult today for a girl or ' young woman to believe anyone really cares about morality, femininity and virtue in our society. But the challenge is simply stated for all to meet, “I know you will find a way.” The invitation to help find the way is open to all. Copies of the “Open Letter” are available free of charge. Simply send your name and address, plus the number of copies desired to: Open Letter, The Solo Cup Foun dation, 7431 East End Avenue, Chicago, Illnois 60649. A supply of the Open Letter will be sent free of charge to be passed along to friends and acquain tances. In addition, a free recording of "LET THERE BE PEACE”, composed by Sy Miller and Jill Jackson and performed by Dora Hall, will be included.
