Thursday, July 23, 1970 Engagement Announced Pag« Three Th« Nyssa Gate City Journal, Nyssa, Oregon Lewis Riggs Enjoys New Mexico Caverns Mr. and Mrs Lewis Riggs flew to Lubbock, Texas July 7-14 to see theirson, Lt. Wayne Riggs graduate from undergea- duate pilot training. From there they went on down toCarlsbad, New Mexico and enjoyed going through the caverns some 829 feet below the surface. On their lay-over at Denver on their way home they were dinner guests in the home of his neice, Mr. and Mrs. Isaac Johnson. ACTIVITIES IN ARCADIA BY AVO MOELLER . ARCADIA - Those attending a picnic dinner Sunday on the Amy Stradley lawn were, Rev. Fred Moxom and Mrs. Moxom, Mr. and Mrs. Boyd Haney and family and Mr. and Mrs. Harold Dail and family. Mr. and Mrs. Jess Beyers from North Platt, Nebr., spent from Friday until Monday with Mr. and Mrs. Clyde Bowers, They were enroute to the coast. Mr. and Mrs. Ernest Stephen sen and Mr. and Mrs. Dean Win chester were business visitors in Boise Sunday. Mr. and Mrs. Clarence Burd from Ontario and Mr. and Mrs. » PHONE 372-2733 Donald Burd of Tacoma, Wash., visited Mr. and Mrs. George Moeller July 14. Mr. and Mrs. Frank James of Pendleton spent July 17 with Mr. and Mrs. Parley Feik. They were enroute to Idaho Falls and Salt Lake City. Mr. and Mrs. Ernest Stephen sen and great grandson, Todd C indell spent several days last week camping on Imnaha River near Hells Canyon. Mr. and Mrs. Kinsey Keveren of Nyssa visited in the George Moeller home Sunday. Michael Carroll from Weiser spent the weekend with his grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Henry Carroll while his parents went camping. Daylene and Fracine Carroll of Kellogg, are also visiting their grand parents. Mr. and Mrs. Gary Neilson and children of Adrian visited Mr. and Mrs. Donald Bullard Sunday. Mr and Mrs. Dale Lakey of Boise visited Sunday in the John Zittercob home. Mr. and Mrs. Otis Bullard were also callers in the Zittercob home. Mr. and Mrs. Theo Mitchell, Mr. and Mrs. Otis Bullard and Alan and Kristi Bullard fished at Malheur Reservoir last Sa turday. ANK MEMBERS MEET AT MC CALL The ANK Garden Club held their annaul meeting at McCall July 14, with 16 members at tending. They had luncheon at Shore Lodge and then toured the Char ley Davidson Gardens, where various varieties of Iris were in bloom. Later that afternoon they were guests of Mrs. Frank Morgan at her cabin, and she served huckleberrv Die. Next meeting will be August 11 at the home of Mrs. Harry Brandt in Nampa. Tootle, Jr., Gulfport, Mississippi, announce the engagement of their daughter, Dianne Gail, to Wayne Merle Sparks, son of Mrs. Robert E. Long of Adrain and the late Mr. Elmer Sparks. Miss Tootle is a 1965 graduate of Gulfport High School. She is presently a senior at the University of Southern Mississippi where she will receive her Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in art education. Captain Sparks is a 1962 graduate of Adrain High School. He received his Bachelor of Science degree in business administration from the University of Oregon in 1966. He was a member of Beta Gamma Sigma, honorary scholastic fraternity. CaptainSparksis serving his tour of duty in the United States Air Force and is presently stationed at Kessler Air Force Base, Biloxi, Mississippi. The wedding will be August 22, at the Westminister Presbyterian Church, in Gulfport. The Rev. W.A. Sullivan of Mars Hill will officiate. A reception will follow at the Downtowner. APPLE VALLEY ITEMS ................... BY FRANCES SMALLEY................. Mr. and Mrs. Charles Pitman have’been enjoying a weeks visit with all their children and their families this past week. Thursday evening they had a family dinner at the Harvey Pitman home in Boise and also celebrated a birthday anni versary for Joe Lambert, Jr. Nancy Pitman ofWitchita Falls, Texas was also present for the reunion. Mr. and Mrs. Joe Lambert and family of Salem left Saturday morning for their home and Mr. and Mrs. Kirby Pitman and family of Tacoma left Monday for home after a weeks visit with Chas Pitmans and other relatives in Boise. Joe Lambert, Jr., Julia Callahan of Salem stayed for a month’s visit with their grand parents, Mr. and Mrs. Chas Pitman. Mr. and Mrs. Waldo Smalley were hosts for a pot luck pic nic dinner Wednesday in honor oi Dr and Mrs. W.D. Miller of Warwick, New Jersey who were on their way to Seattle and Ta coma. They will go to Puerto Rico about August 6. trther guests were Mr. and Mrs. Glenn Weed and Mrs. Cleta Lockwood of Caldwell, Mrs. Mary Nichols of Eagle and Mr. and Mrs. Robert Smalley and family of Ontario. Mrs. Mary Nichols and Ver non Nichols of Cascade were Tuesday luncheon guests in the Waldo Smalley home. Mrs. Evelyn Bryant and Mrs. Louise Breach were Sunday evening visitors of Mrs. Grimes in the Waldo Smalley home Mr. and Mrs. RexNicholsand sons and her two brothers and families of Boise, Mr. and Mrs. Larry Simmons and Mr. and Mrs. Charles Simmons en joyed a trip to Yellowstone Na tional Park over the weekend. Mr. and Mrs. Lawerence Thompson enjoyed a fishing and camping trip Thursday to Sa turday upon the Little Salmon. Mr. and Mrs. Clyde Miller were fishing Saturday at Malheur Reservoir, when she fell and broke her leg. She had to be brought out by am bulance to the Nyssa Hospital where she is now. Mr. and Mrs. George Griffin left last week for a 10 day va cation trip. They will visit with relatives in Baker and Washing ton. Lorrie will stay with her grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Gene Honey until her parents return. Mr. and Mrs. George Geesey and family of Phoenix were guests Wednesday to Friday in the Gene Honey home. Marilu Wilson left July 20 with 18 other young people and adults for an 8 day Canoe Camping trip at Yellowstone Lake. Mr. and Mrs. Gene Honey returned July 13 from a trip to Winchester Lake where they had a reunion with Mrs. Honey's sisters andfamiiies. Those who came were Mr. and Mrs. George Geesey and family, Phoenix; Mr. and Mrs. Albert Bowen, Ridgecrest, Calif.; Mr. and Mrs. Morse Riblett of Medical Lake, Wash.; Mr. and Mrs. Frank Coley of Craigmont; and Mr. 4 and Mrs. Don Honey of Boise. Mrs. Lavone Fox and her mother were visitors on Thurs day evening of Mrs. Helen Wil son. Mr. and Mrs. Delbert Sulli van have been enjoying a 3 day visit with his 3 sisters who came for the Roswell school reunion held on July 19. Mrs. John Smith came from Beaverton, Ore., Mrs. Maoel Smith of Portland, and Mrs. Geneva Ran dolph from Manzanita, Ore. They returned home on Monday. Mrs. Lucille Reed was a Thursday evening visitor and Mr. and Mrs. Cleo Whitton of Boise were Friday and Satur day guests of Mrs. Nell Cor rell. Mr. and Mrs. Robert Rook stool and family of Caldwell visited Thursday with Mr. and Mrs. Roy Rookstool and Mr. and Mrs. Jim Edens and family and later in the day they all visited with Ronald Rookstool in the Ontario hospital. Mr. and Mrs. Delbert Frates of Fruitland were Thursday evening guests of Mr. and Mrs. Ed Sells. Sunday dinner guests in the Dwight Seward home were Rev. Robert Manley, Geren, and Mike Fitzsimmons of Nyssa and Mrs. Jennie Seward. Sunday evening guests in the Dwight Seward home were Mike Fix, Randy Coryell, MikeWiele and Dan Ketchum, who were a quartet from N.N.C., other guests were Cheryll Bean of Nampa and Mr. and Mrs. Mel Coryell and Pamela of Boise. Mr. and Mrs. Leroy Seward and family attended their church camp meeting in McCall for se veral days last week. Mr. and Mrs. Emery Rath bun and Karen Chappel of La Puente, Calif., left W ednesday to visit a few days in Albany, Ore., before leaving for their home in California. Mrs. Dwight Seward and Mrs. Hilda Rathbun visited Tuesday with Mrs. Isal Gibson of Em mett. ENGLEHARDT ATTENDS REUNION Mrs. Gladys Englehardt re turned last week from a three weeks trip to Iowa and Minne sota. She attended an all-class re union of her high school at Sheldon, Iowa on July 3-4 for graduates from 1899 to 1960. There were 1,004 attending the reunion. She met her first grade tea cher, Mrs. Clara Hout, who is 86. The oldest was 90. There were ten in Mrs. Englehardt’s class of 1921 present. She visited her brother in Starbuck, Minn., for a week and a sister in Sheldon for a week. August Englehardt, the Engle hardt’s son, recently was pro moted to Master Sgt. in the Air Force and has returned to Viet nam from Worth Smith Air Force Base in Northern Michi gan.
