B. Smith and Mrs. Hazel Chamberlain of Nyssa were June 19 visitors in the home of Mrs. Lois Counsil. Mrs. Glenn Knottingham and children of Caldwell, Mr. and Mrs. Lloyd Lewis of Nyssa were June 22 visitors in the Counsil home. Mrs. Harriet Turner of Owy hee Junction, Mr. and Mrs. Donald Parker of Capitola, Calif., Wesley Parker, Miss Melinda Garretson of Sunny vale, Calif., and Lester Head- den of Ontario were June 22 guests of Mr. and Mrs. Ken neth Lorensen and family. Mr. and Mrs. Homer Brewer and Mary and Kenneth Finley spent June 22 at Cherry Creek park where theyattendeda fam ily picnic. Others present were, the John Westfalls’ of Burns, the Howard Evans of Parma, the Keith Tailmans’ of Home dale, Mr. and Mrs. Darrell Williams. Mr. and Mrs. Keith Langley and sons, and Mrs. E. J. Hob son were June 22 dinner guests of Mr. and Mrs. Jim Langley. Afternoon visitors were Mr. and Mrs. Elver Nielsen. Mr. and Mrs. Ora Newgen, Arthur Johnson and Mrs. Lois Counsil attended the June 19 session of the fiddlers' con test at Weiser. Mr. and Mrs. Lewis Mitchell were June 21 evening visitors in the A. T. Knowles home. Mr. and Mrs. Hollis Knowles and daughter of Oakridge, Ore., were recent weekend visitors in the nome of his parents, Mr. and Mrs. A. T. Knowles. Mr. and Mrs. Charles Glenn and family and Lonnie Bennett, visitor in the Glenn home, spent June 22 at Durkee, where they visited Mrs. Glenn’s mother, Mrs. Theda Boren. While there they celebrated the 18th birthday anniversary of a brother, Leon ard Boren. Mr. and Mrs. Darrell Wil son and children, Mr. and Mrs. Mel Wilson and daughter of On tario were June 21 dinner guests of their parents, Mr. and Mrs. Harley Wilson. Mr. and Mrs. Lewis Mitchell visited on the evening of June 16 with Mr. and Mrs. Clarence Pendarvis, Mr. and Mrs. Gor don Britton of Hood River at Cherry Creek park. The Pen darvis couple and Brittons were weekend campers there. Mr. and Mrs. Emerson Bing aman, Mr. and Mrs. EwenChard were June 20 evening visitors in the Elver Nielsen home. June 22 evening guests in the Nielsen Capital Food Service, con tract food supplier at Trea sure Valley Community Col lege, awards for “food scholarship” each year to stu dents attending Treasure Valley. Two of the scholarships are earmarked for music majors and two are set aside for ath letes competing in at least two sports. Next year’s recipients are: music, Bob Biddle, As toria; and athletics, Rick Wells, Tillamook, and Al White, Le banon. One music scholar ship will be awarded later. EARNS TOP AWARDS ACTIVITIES^! ARCADL?^* NEWELL HEIGHTS - Mrs. Marie Moore left June 5 for Chester, Calif., to attend graduation rites for a grand daughter, Sig Linda Jacobson. At an assembly on June 6, the graduate received ten awards. Among the top ones was a gold bracelet from American Association of Uni versity Women for the highest grade point average among Chester high school girl grad uates completing requirements for entrance exams to the Uni versity of California. She also received a $350 scholarship from the Federal Personnel council of Northern California. Six of the scholar ship awards were presented in Northern California. One was a $600 continuing scholarship award from the Almanor Scholarship Fund, (Collins Lumber Mills). Sig Linda has been accepted at Davis, a branch of U of C. At present she plans to become a medical technician. She was valedictorian of her class and the topic of her talk was “A Journey into the Fu ture, With Youth as Our Guide.” She was an honor student throughout her high school career. Christine Jacobson of Ches ter, also Mrs. Moore’s grand daughter, is now visiting in this area.
