THURSDAY, MAY 22, 1969 Annual Picnic, Trackmeet Held At Nyssa Junior High Nyssa Junior High annual picnic-trackmeet was held at Nyssa May 16. NJHS hosted boys and girls from Vale and Adrian. Students from the three towns met at 12:30 to eat their lunch before beginning their track and field events. “This annual event has been held at Nyssa for approximate- ly the past twelve years,” stated organizer, Dan Martin. BURNS TAKES FIRST PLACE IN TRACK Final results of the Adrian Junior high invitational track meet held May 9, on the Ante lope field are: Seventh grade- Burns, 94.5; Ontario, 68; Adrian, 25.5; Vale 19.5; Par ma, 15.5; and Middleton, 5; Eighth grade- Bums, 110; On tario, 42.5; Vale, 42; Adrian, 21; Parma, 15.5; New Ply mouth, 3; and Middleton, 0. Jackson Speaks At Athletic Dinner Larry Jackson, retired ace pitcher for the Philadelphia Phillies, was speaker for the annual Nyssa athletic tianquet Tuesday evening. Approximate ly 280 fathers and sons attend ed the dinner. Jackson based his speech on the “Uncommon Man.’’ Father Charles Young served as toast master while the Rev. J. D. Crego offered the invocation. Superintendent of Nyssa Public Schools Walter L. Me Partland welcomed those who attended. Coach Mel Calhoun, NHSath letic director, introduced the head coach of each sport, who in turn awarded letters to ath letes. NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN that an election will be held in School District No. 61 of Malheur County, State of Ore gon, from 8:00 a.m. to 8 p.m. on May 31, 1969, at the Adrian Elementary School in said school district, for the purpose of submitting to the qualified voters of said district the ques tion of increasing the tax levy for the fiscal year 1969-1970 over the amount limited by Section 11, Article XI, of the Constitution of Oregon. The reasons for increasing such levy are: Adrian School District »61 has no tax base. This money is needed to op erate the School. The amount of tax, in excess of the constitutional limitation, proposed to be levied for said fiscal year is $269,813.50, which, expressed as a rate of levy, is estimated at $17.90 per thousand dollars of true cash value of taxable property within the district. Mrs. Brice would appreciate hearing from her friends in the area. ♦ ••J* »2 Neel To Leave For St Helens Nyssa basketball coach Tom Neel has been named as head basketball coach at St. Helens, Oregon high school. St. Helens is a.i A-1 public high school that competes in the TYV league which is composed of Portland area suburban schools. Neel is a former Eastern Oregon college star basketball player who has compiled a 95- win, 68-loss record since he en tered the coaching field.
