Ken neth Huffman, son of Mr. and Mrs. Jesse Huffman, was re cently transferred to the Red stone Arsenal at Huntsville, Ala., where he will receive eight months of special training in radar repair and affiliated in struction. He has been assigned to Lowry AFB, Colo., for training in the missle electronics field. Lewis, Wash., he was transferred to Ft. Rucker, Ala., for three months of advanced individual instruction. There he attended the U. S. Army aviation school, training as a 67 B 20 single engine observation utility air craft mechanic. Upon com pletion of the course, he was promoted to his present rank. Mrs. Ef fie Nielsen went to Boise early this week and on Tuesday under went surgery at St. Luke’s hos pital. Mr. and Mrs. Lewis Mitchell were Jan. 17-20 guests of Mrs. Georgia Pendarvis and other relatives at Wallowa. While there, they celebrated the birth days of Georgia and Lewis. Mrs. Myrtle Hillis, Mr. and Mrs. Lewis Mitchell visited Jan. 26 with a brother of Mrs. Hillis, Floyd Rudolph at Boise. They were also dinner guests at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Arvel Rudolph. Mr. and Mrs. Dwight Pline of Boise were Jan. 19 evening dinner guests at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Harold Snyder. Mrs. Darrell Wilson and child ren of Wilder spent Jan. 26 at the home of her parents, the Harold Snyders. Mr. and Mrs. Ira Price were Jan. 26 evening guests at the home of Mr. and Mrs. E. D. Price. The Tri-Valley extension meeting was held at the home of Mrs. Elver Nielsen, Jan. 24 with 17 ladies attending. Mr. and Mrs. Jack Wood, Mrs. Dixie Parker and child ren visited Jan. 25 with Mrs. Rowena Kreager. Mr. and Mrs. Wood and Mrs. Dixie Parker returned Jan. 23 from a week’s vacation to Reno, Nev., where they visited Mrs. Wood’s bro ther, Bud Schweizer and fam ily. They also visited Wood’s brother, Mr. and Mrs. Cleo Wood and family at Cedar City, Utah. They visited with other relatives in Kanah and Hurri cane, Utah; and inBoulderCity, Nev. Word was received this week that Frank Parker, who has been critically ill with pneu monia is recovering nicely. Parker, the father of Donald Parker is a former resident of the Cow Hollow area. Rev. and Mrs. Arthur Skogan and Bill were Jan. 22 callers at the Ken Lorensen home. Bill left Jan. 27 to take his basic training for the Air Force at San Antonio, Texas. Mrs. Beth Glenn was a Jan. 26 visitor at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Jack Wood. Other visitors were Mr. and Mrs. Don Haworth. Gabriel Astoreca and Jess Asumendi recently received word that their sister, Mrs. Dale Funk passed away early Saturday morning at a hospital in Spokane, Wash. Mrs. Funk Airman Bohannon was grad uated in 1966 from Nyssa high school and attended Treasure Valley Community college. His Mr. and Mrs. Lyle Miner, father, Clarence C. First place win ner of the contest was Dana Bratton; 2nd place, Bob Peter son; and 3rd, Dick Cooper. Bratton will compete in the district contest to be held in Nyssa on Feb. 6. Other participants were Bret Hadley and Lurelie Robbins. Judces for the contest were David Peery of the First Na tional Bank; Don Bates, a high school teacher; and Ray Larson of the Amalgamated Sugar Com pany. PAGE THREE Western Farmers Association Completes Fertilizer Plant A new-type bulk dry fertil izer plant just completed at Western Farmers Associa tion’s recently acquired facil ities in Ontario, Oregon brings expanded WFA services to farmers in this important agri cultural area, announces Dewey Servatius, local manager. The plant will provide a com plete line of bulk dry simple and mixed fertilizers. It will also make available custom ap plications of fertilizers with a “swamp buggy” and Barber spreader truck, and custom formulation of fertilizers with minor elements. Equipment has likewise been provided for using the newly developed process of impreg nating certain pesticides into fertilizers before spreading. ditional services from the new facility, Servatius said. “This fertilizer installation is one of several new units of eastern Oregon and southern Idaho,” explains Dale Smith, general manager at Seattle. “These additions are largely to help provide a full line of production - marketing ser vices to members of Idaho Po tato Growers which merged into WFA last summer, and toother farmers in these productive agricultural districts.” The Ontario fertilizer plant augments the feed mill and grain handling services made possible through WFA’s pur chase of the Colorado Milling and Elevator Company facili ties when they discontinued their formula feed business in Ontario some months ago.
