J. Niel and family of Wallowa picnicked July 4 on the Imnaha river. Mrs. Jess Asumendi and children visited July 7 with Mr. and Mrs. Art Harnack at Moun tain Home Air Force base. Kelly Harnack returned home with his aunt to spend several days. Mr. and Mrs. Gabe Astoreca and girls, Mr. and Mrs. Wayne Robb and family were July 4 evening guests of Mrs. Bonnie Hatch and children. Mrs. Wayne Robb returned to Moscow, Idaho July 7 to resume her summer studies after spending the July 4 weekend with her family. Mr. and Mrs. Ron Lowtrip and Tracy of Blue Lake, Calif., are spending two weeks visiting his mother, Mrs. Delphene Meir and Duane. Mr. and Mrs. Earl Robinson and Linda of Los Angeles, Calif., spent a recent weekend with her sister, Mr. and Mrs. Ora Newgen. Mrs. Newgen and the Robinsons visited another sister, Mrs. Gus Stroh in Boise. They then went to Portland where they attended a family reunion at Priest Lake. Nampa ■ 466-7841 spent the July 4 weekend camping at Delamar near Silver City. Jimmie Langley returned home recently from a three- week trip to Europe with a group of FFA youths. Mr. and Mrs. James Langley, Mrs. E. J. Hobson, Mr. and Mrs. Harold Alexander and family attended a July 4 church pic nic on the Apple Valley school grounds. Mr. and Mrs. George John son of Verdi, Nev., were July 7 guests of Mr. and Mrs. Harley Wilson. Lila Wilson recently returned home after spending several weeks with her brother, Mr. and Mrs. Melvin Wilson at Corvallis. July 1 dinner guests of Mr. and Mrs. Jack Wood were Pat Smith, Ann Davis and Chris and Mrs. Adah Schweizer. Mr. and Mrs. Don Hayworth and Chuck Share were evening visitors. Mr. and Mrs. JackWood, Mr. and Mrs. Jeff Parker and family, Mr. and Mrs. Gene Derrick and family picnicked July 4 in Vale. Mr. and Mrs. Ed Lawson of Sparks, Nev., visited on the evening of July 4 with Mr. and Mrs. Jack Wood. Mr. and Mrs. Jack Simpson were July 4 guests of Mr. and Mrs. Carl Simpson. Recent visitors in the Magnus Ekanger home were her mother, Mrs. John Cleaver; an aunt, Mrs. Velma Boyer of St. Petersburg, Fla., and Mrs. Wyatt Smith. Mr. and Mrs. Magnus Ekan ger, Mr. and Mrs. JohnCleaver and Mrs. Velma Boyer were July 4 guests of Mr. and Mrs. Jerry Gordon at Payette. Recent weekend guests of Mr. and Mrs. Cook Mitchell were her neice, Mr. and Mrs. James Barrymore and Frank of Wallowa. Other guests were Mr. and Mrs. A. T. Knowles, Mrs. Mrytle Hillis, Jimmie Pendar- vis, Dent and Henry Mitchell. Jimmie Pendarvis returned home with the Barrymores, after spending several weeks with his grandmother, Mrs. Hillis. Mr. and Mrs. Emerson Bing aman of F ruitland, Mr. and Mrs. Clifford Nielsen of Ontario were July 4 barbecue guests of Mr. and Mrs. Elver Nielsen. Mr. and Mrs. Earl Province of Caldwell were July 7 dinner guests of Mr. and Mrs. Ira Price. Joel Price of Portland spent the July 4 weekend with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Ira Price. Mr. and Mrs. Wayne Robb and family were July 6 guests of Mrs. Mae Lytle at Roswell. The group honored Lee Davis on his 93 birthday anniversary. Mike Robb left July 7 for Elgin, Ore., to work in the pea harvest. Mrs. Wilbur Chapin and Mrs. Tom Crow of Madras recently returned home from a 15-day trip to Nebraska where they visited friends and relatives. Enroute home the travelers visited many points of interest, including the Bad Lands, Custer’s battle ground and at tended the Centennial celebra tion at Laramie, Wyo. They then traveled over the pass of Chief Joseph and saw the Lewis and Clark cave before returning home. Marie and Mona Thornton of Caldwell were July 14 din ner quests of Mr. and Mrs. Wilbur Chapin. Mr. and Mrs. CharlesChapin and Cindy were hosts to approximately 30 teenagers for a July 13 hayride and wiener roast. Assisting the Chapins were Mr. and Mrs. Kenneth Price, Mr. and Mrs. Dick Davis, Mr. and Mrs. Jim Thomas. Mr. and Mrs. CharlesChapin, Mr. and Mrs. Alvin Hall spent a recent weekend camping at Anthony Lake near Baker. Mrs. Charles Glenn and children recently returned home from a two and one- half-week trip to California where they visited her brother, Mr. and Mrs. Tom Boren at Corona. They also visited Knotts’ berry farm, Disneyland, the Queen Mary, Los Angeles, San Francisco, toured Beverly Hills and Hollywood. The Glenn family returned home via Car- son City and VirginiaCity.Nev. Mr. and Mrs. Charles Glenn and family, Mrs. Theda Boren and Leonard went to Baker July 14 when they visited Tent City, where the movie ‘Paint Your Wagon’ is being filmed. Mildred Vaughan is Mrs. Al Thompson’s sister. Mr. and Mrs. Gary Thompson and Jeff arrived July 11 from Moscow, Idaho. They left Jeff with his grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Herschel Thompson, while they went to Idaho Falls to attend the wedding and reception of Sandra Mann and Leroy Barton. They returned July 13 and left the following afternoon for their home. Mrs. Ed Nedrow was noti fied July 13 of the death of an uncle, George F. Wonack of La Veta, Colo. He had visited here often and was known by many area residents. Sandy Osborn and Marsha Case left July 13 for Monmouth, Ore., where they are attending a youth conference on teaching. It is a one-week summer col lege session. Mr. and Mrs. Ed Sharp and family of Notus were July 14 dinner guests of her mother, Mrs. Alzina Salter. Mrs. Alzina Salter and Nellie Tanner attended the July 11 Sharon Smith - Clarence Pat evening wedding reception at Caldwell. Mrs. Carol Rettig and son, Mike of Ontario were July 14 dinner guests in the Jim Phifer home. The Phifers attended the July 12 Meridian dairy show. Mr. and Mrs. Clyde Bowers were July 11 evening guests of Mr. and Mrs. Charles Bowers. Mr. and Mrs. John Zitter- cob were July 14 afternoon visitors in the Herschel Thomp son home. Mr. and Mrs. Jerry Berry of Richland, Ore., spent a recent week visiting the Ed Nedrow family. Berry has moved into this area, and is working with the Adrian Soil conservation service. Isac Martinez was a July 10 evening visitor in the Nedrow home. Doug Conant of Nampa is spending a week with his uncle, Mr. andMrs. WillisConant. Mr. and Mrs. Virgil Viers and boys were July 14 evening guests of the Conants. Mr. and Mrs. Henry Young, Gail, Greg and Elizabeth of Coos Bay, Ore., visited July 11- 14 with Mrs. Young’s aunt, Mr. and Mrs. Carl Begeman. While they were here the men went on an overnight fishing trip with neighbors to the Owyhee reser voir the women attended a movie in Ontario. The group dined Fri day evening at East Side cafe in Ontario. Mr. andMrs. Virgil Viersand boys were July 14 evening visi tors in the W. A. Hines home in Ontario where they also visited other friends, Mrs. Jim O’Don nell and Pat of Gardena, Calif., Mr. and Mrs. Anderson of Nampa. COUPLE GRADUATES PERSONALS Mr. and Mrs. Max Dane and Tammy of Phoenix, Ariz., arrived June 23 at the home of her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Howard Myrick. The Myricks and Danes, the Lyle Miner and Wilmer Hipp families went to Julia Davis park in Boise for a July 4 picnic. The Myrick family prepared a July 5 barbecue dinner. Guests included Dane’s parents, Mr. also visited Mr. and Mrs. Ralph and Mrs. Owen Coons of Jun tura; his sister, Mr. and Mrs. Hite at Baker. Wilson’s I ANOTHER UNUSUAL ENTRY in the 1968 Nyssa Nite Rodeo parade was this stagecoach, spon sored by members of the Oregon Trail Grange. Out in front, astride ‘Cap’, is Master Don Somers carrying the OT grange banner. The ‘coach’ was secured from the Malheur County Fair Board, and pulling it is a team of horses belonging to Mr. and Mrs. Vaughan Stringer, who are riding on the stage with some of their hired men. Six young ladies are inside, and even though they are not visible, as they rode along the parade route they threw ‘candy kisses’ to the viewers. i AT UOF O; STUDY FOR PEACE CORPS Mr. and Mrs. (Chris and Laura) Wyckoff were both named on the University of Oregon spring term honor roll. Wyckoff earned a perfect 4 grade point average. Laura was elected to membership inUofO chapter of Phi Beta Kappa, a national scholastic honorary. On Sunday, June 9, both were graduated from the university in Eugene. On Monday, July 8 the couple left Portland for Honomu, Hawaii for five weeks of inten sive language training in the Peace Corps. In August, they will fly to Thailand to serve two years in the Corps. They will be teaching English in the secondary schools. Their exact location in Thailand is not yet known. They are Judith Laurance, Sundae Savage, Patty Dority, Marlene Jamieson, Renee and Marty Somers. Also aboard is Gary Kurtz. Harold Kurtz and Alva Goodell rode their steeds as guardsmen for the unit. This reporter was unable to contact the Stringers for addi tional information about the horses pulling the stagecoach. According to Somers, it is believed that they are among the largest in this part of the country, weighing approximately one ton each, and are four and five years old. - Staff Photo.
