The speaker iiad just stated that over $2 billion was lost to merchants in the United States each year. That boils down to just over $1,500 per minute, around the clock. There were several answers to the question including fear of losing a sale because the cus tomer might feel insulted if asked for identification or ref erences; not taking time to learn about methods of forgery; being too busy to check details.
