THE NYSSA GATE CITY JOURNAL, NYSSA, OREGON PAGE FOUR THURSDAY, APRIL 25, 1968 Arra Gardeners To Meet In Vale EMBLEM CLUB ACTIVITIES BRUCE SARA ZIN “It caught me by surprise. I wasn’t even expecting it!” These were comments made by Bruce, who took fourth place in the extemporaneous division at the recent state speech decla mation in Eugene. Bruce and two other speech contestants, Warren Adams and Manuel Silva, left April 17 for the University of Oregon. Chap eroning them was their speech adviser Don Bates. I LOOKING FOR OIL & GREASE? To get into the finals, Bruce had to give two speeches and receive a “one” rating on both of them. He did this and became eligible to compete in the finals. His final speech was on the Elector College, which resulted in his winning an award cer tificate. At an evening banquet the awards were given to the six finalists, with Bruce receiving the one for fourth-place. When asked to give some ad vice to beginning speech students, Bruce replied, “To those who are irterested in speech, I believe there are two things to remember, you never sound as bad as you think you do, and always be prepared!” ♦ ♦— DUPLICATE BRIDGE First place winners at the April 18 session of the Nyssa Duplicate bridge session were Mrs. Houston Wilson and John W'ilson, with Mrs. Ray Rus sell and Mrs. David Sarazm taking second place honors. Hot water, as everyone knows, is not an option in modern living. It is an absolute must. But, necessity that it is, it can very definitely be a luxury—if you choose a natural gas water heater. It makes sense to heat water with natural gas because a 40-gallon gas- fired water heater will perform in your home even better than a 66-gallon flameless water heater. That makes your first cost lower and your daily operating cost lower. What stronger argument do you need? CHILDREN 100’s PINI 6'/« OZ.
