Vale Vikings Claim Nyssa Invitational; Three Records Fall Vale picked up six first place blue ribbons while a pair of running marks and one field event mark were toppled Thurs day afternoon in the sixth annual running of the Nyssa Invitational track and field meet. Vale won the meet with 77 1/2 points while Nyssa coming on strong m the long jump event, edged past Kelly by a 53 1/2 to 49 margin. Weiser finished fourth with 47 1/2 followed by Ontario with 43 1/2 and Payette finished last with one point. Ontario’s Dan Lewis bettered the shot put mark with a toss of 57-feet, four-inches, one of the best throws so far this spring in the valley. The old mark was held by Nyssa’s Pe trie of 55-feet, 2 1/4-inches. Other marks that went down were the 880-run and the mile- relay. A Weiser Junior Alan Judd quickly ripped through the pack and by the first turn had settled far ahead in the 880-event. Set ting his stride the Wolverine harrier had little trouble with challengers, but nevertheless set a blistering pace of 1:55.1, besting the old recordof2:03.9, set by Oft of Nyssa in 1964. Vale’s speedy quartet of Dave McCune, Steve Kenison, Bruce Shiery and Don Wayne set a new record in the mile-relay. Pushed all the way by the tough Weiser foursome, Vale man aged to clip 4.2 seconds off the old record. The Vikings sailed around at a 3:34.1 pace. The old markwas 3:38.3, estab lished by Ontario in 1964. Darr Jensen of Nyssa was a big winner of the meet, picking off three first places. The Bull dog flash skipped over the high hurdles to finish ahead of Vale’s Shiery with a time of 16.5. Jen sen then won the long jump with a leap of 19-feet, 111/2-inches and took first in the pole vault, one of his strongest points, at 12-feet even. Tim McPheeters, Vale’s sprinter, was a two-time winner at the Nyssa meet, picking up blue ribbons in the 100-dashand the 220-dash. Kelly, fielding its strongest track team ever, remained in contention and was running sec ond only to Vale when the Nyssa lads picking up a first and second place in the long-jump thrust their way ahead. 120-Highs - Jensen (N)Shiery (V) ; Adams (W) Smith (K) Skow (W) 16.5. £80-Relay - Ontario (Miller, R. That’s why it’s especially important that drivers be on the lookc it for children who might suddenly ■fash into their path during play. The Oregon Traffic Safety Commission reminds you that it’s the little things in life that count.
