COUNTY COURT PROCtEDINGS MINUTES OE THE MALHEUR COUNTY COURT MEETING - JANUARY 3, 1968 Called to order by County Judge Ellis A. White withCom- misslonera Jacob Fischer and E. W. Maag present. Adopted the resolution to pur chase five acres of land, for gravel pit purposes, from Jake Comyford for the amount of $1,500.00. Agreed to have the Road Dept, to gravel a turn-around at the Wist residence to enable the School bus to pick up school children and also widen the Graham Boulevard turn off. Approved by resolution to send Jake Elscher to the Ore gon l*arks and Recreation Society meeting In E ugene, Jan uary 19 & 20, 1968. Approved by resolution the withdrawal of property as petitioned by land owners of the Ontario Road Assessment Dis trict *3, as this was annexed in the city of Ontario. Approved by resolution for tin- uniii ition of l*ark »2, On tario, Oregon, by the funds from the l*ark and Recreation Eund in the sum of $1,940 and this to I m * matched by the City of Ontario for the fiscal year 1968- 6 ■ . Motion made and seconded to approve a five cent hourly in crease and this to be recon sidered at Budget time, for the employees of the Malheur County Nursing Horne. Voted on. White and Fischer - Aye; Maag - Naye. Motion carried. * Approved an Order For Re fund in the matter of County Land for sale. Tax Lot »59tK , to Mr. Tom Raymond, Juliaetta, Idaho, as he had placed one hundred dollars down on the above mentioned property, and then decided not to purcliase the land. Approved Order No. 45, that the County Auditor issue war rants totaling $55,430.70. County Court drew prospec tive juror names for the year INI, a* per O.RA 10.110. Resolved to have District At torney H. Clifford Looney re view the County’s Liability In surance to insure that theCounty is within the maxium as towhat the State has set up for all Counties. Approved the resolution to discuss with Mr. William Mc- Knight, Editor of the Ontario Argus Observer, as to the dif ference in the cost of publishing the County Court proceedings as compared with other news papers in the County. Approved Order No. 46, that the County Auditor issue war rants totaling $28,922.59, this being done and dated January 17, 1968. Approved Order No. 47, that the County Auditor issue war rants totaling $14,740.28, done and dated the 24th day of Jan uary, 1968. County Court of Malheur County and State of Oregon signed an agreement between both parties as to the construc tion of the Halliday Bridge over the Malheur River on Foothill Drive, FAS 23-108. March 23, 1968 is the date designated as Malheur County 4-H Day. The State of Oregon, County Court of Malheur County and City of Ontario signed an agree ment as to the federal matching funds for acquisition and devel opment of outdoor recreation KINGMAN KOLQNY NEWS By Dale Witt KINGMAN KOLONY - Mrs. lister Strawn attended Feb. 29 funeral services for Mrs. Foy Sasser in New Plymouth. The Strawn family visited March 3 with the Arnold Strawns In Caldwell. Mrs. Bill Too mb accom panied Mr. and Mrs. Wesley Piercy to near Parma on the afternoon of March 3 when they visited the Wayne Piercy family. They also called at the Roy Mecham home near Nyssa. Mrs. W. C. Van deWater was a Feb. 23 afternoon visitor in the Carl Begeman home. Mr. and Mrs. Jim Phifer and Jan, Mr. and Mrs. Carl Lee Hill and family attended the Feb. 26 district basketball tourney held in Baker. The Phifers were Saturday evening guests in the Hill residence. Mr. and Mrs. J. J. Fleming of Wilder were Feb. 29 after noon visitors in the Al Thomp son home. March 3 afternoon visitors were Mr. and Mrs. John Zittercob of the Arcadia area. Mr. and Mrs. Clay Murphy of Fruitland were March 3 visitors in the Wesley Walker home. Sunday dinner guests of the Willis Conants were Mr. and Mrs. Lester Stacy and girls of Parma, Mr. and Mrs. Bill Conant. Mr. and Mrs. Oscar Schafer visited March 3 with her sister, Mr. ~nd Mrs. Kirby Kindall at Caldwell. The women’s mother, Mrs. La Vada Lenaghen of Boise, was also a guest. Mr. and Mrs. Art Sparks of Nyssa were March 2 afternoon visitors in the Schafer home. Mr. and Mrs. Glenn Brown, Timmy and Colleen were March 3 dinner guests of Mr. and Mrs. Ed Nedrow and family. The dinner honored Timmy Brown and Jimmy Nedrow on their birthday anniversaries. Mr. and Mrs. Ralph Cleveland and Steve of Ontario and Andy Peutz were March 3 afternoon visitors in the Nedrow home. Mr. and Mrs. Rex Walters of Boise were March 3 evening visitors in the Al Thompson home. Mr. and Mrs. Earl Kygarand family went to Jordan Valley March 3 to visit Mr. and Mrs. Jerry Gordon and family. Sun day evening visitors in the Kygar home were Mr. and Mrs. Dean Robertson. Mr. and Mrs. Don Fox re cently spent several days in Boise where they cared for their grandchildren while their parents, Mr. and Mrs. John Thiel, were in San Francisco. Mr. and Mrs. W. H. Charles Quinowski, guidance director, stated that the obvious need for such an information center has been noted for some time, because of the fact that the guidance office and resource area are not in the general traffic pattern of high school students. By the utilization of CVS, students will find certain kinds of information pertaining to col lege, vocations and scholar ships more readily available to them. Guidance information presented through this means need not be checked out or returned. The CVS center will also have other unique features. Mr. and Mrs. Alden Bryan attended a Feb. 27 crop clinic session at Jewett auditorium in Caldwell. Mr. and Mrs. Norman Guthrie were March 1 visitors of the Alden Bryans. The Guthries farmed in the Nu Acres area in Joins Phi Kappa Phi James Benedict has been initiated into the Oregon State university chapter of Phi Kappa Phi, national scholastic honor society, according to an OSU news release. Membership in Phi Kappa Phi is top campus recognition for outstanding scholarship. Benedict is a senior in the School of Engineering, and is a son of Mr. and Mrs. Deward L. Benedict of route 2, Nyssa. 1965 and are now living in Apple Valley. Guthrie recently underwent heart surgery. Mr. and Mrs. Cecil Evans, Mr. and Mrs. Buel Clement attended recent funeral ser vices for Mrs. Foy Sasser at New Plymouth. Mr. and Mrs. Gary Heap and family of Madras, Ore., visited recently in the home of the Ralph Baxters. The Heaps are grandchildren of the Nu Acres couple. Mrs. Clarence Pugh and daughter of Spokanne arrived recently to spend several days with her parents, the Sherman Kecks. The Pine Toppers of McCall played at Treasure ValleyCom- munity college on the evening of March 2. Tommy Otto, man ager of the group, brought his family and spent Saturday night and Sunday with his parents, the Alden Bryans. A demonstration, “Garnishes to Whet Appetite” was presented by Mmes. O. L. Betts and Roy Howard. to advertise monthly guidance events as well as job possibili ties, scholarship bulletins and various kindsof useful informa tion. It is planned the CVS center will be lighted and wired for sound, which will be useful in advertising guidance events and other school activities. Quinowski has indicated that the CVS center was designed with interest of Nyssa high school students in mind. It is hoped that each student will accept a certain amount of responsibility for the upkeep and care of this student center. Students are reminded that this is not designed as a handy place to stack books for a rest stop during the course of the day. Respect for the CVS center is necessary, and will be appreciated by the guidance de partment, Quinowski added.
