It was a farewell dinner for Mrs. Paul Carter, the former Nancy Strawn, who left by plane from Boise Feb. 5 to join her husband who is lationed with the U. S. Navy in Guam. Mr. and Mrs. Arnold Strawn and family of Caldwell spent the evening of Feb. 4 at the Lester Strawn home. Mrs. A. J. Reiher and Mrs. Beverly Cazier and family of New Plymouth were afterrioon visitors, Mr. and Mrs. Jim Osborn of Ontario were Feb. 4 dinner guests In the Myron Osborn borne. The Pollyanna Club women held their "Coffee for the Heart Fund** on Feb. 1 at the home of Mrs. Bill Toomb. Thirty area residents attended and 532 was given for the "heart" campaign. The club women served home made cookies and coffee. Mr. and Mrs. Wilhs ( onant and Jim, Mr. and Mrs. Bill Conant were Feb. 4 dinner guests of Mr. and Mrs. Richard Conant at Nampa. Mr. and Mrs. Virgil Viers and boys attended a Feb. 4 potluck dinner, held at Owyhee Com munity church after the morning wo-ship service. Mr. and Mrs. Don Hunt and girls of Nampa were Feb. 4 afternoon visitors in the Jim Phifer homo. Mr. and Mrs. Art Sparks of Nyssa were Feb. 4 d nner guests of Mr. and Mrs. Oscar Schafer. Mr. and Mrs. Rex Walters of Boise spent a recent week end visiting in the Al and Herschel Thompson homes. All were Feb. 4 dinner guests in the Herschel Thompson resi dence. Mr. and Mrs. Tom Louk and children of Shelly, Ida., arrived Feb. 2 to visit for several days with his sister, Mr. and Mrs. Carl Piercy and family. Mr. and Mrs. Ralph Hite and Chuck Walker were Feb. 4 din ner guests of Mr. and Mrs. Wesley Walker. Mrs.CarlFenn, and Mrs. Gene Simpson were afternoon visitors. Mr. and Mrs. Tom Duncan and children were Feb. 4 din ner guests of Mr. and Mrs. Earl Kygar. Mr. and Mrs. Carl Piercy, Mr. and Mrs. Tom Louk and children visited on the evening of Feb. 3 in the Dick Kriegti home. Kathleen Pugh Graduates At WU With BA Degree After three and one-half years of study, Instead of the usual four years, Mrs. Kath leen (Keck) Pugh was graduat ed Jan. 17, 1968 from Wil- lamette university in Salem, Ore., with a Bachelor of Arts degree. She majored in mathematics, with a m nor in elementary education and firing her college career had an accumulative grade point average of 3.91 out of a possible 4.0. While a freshman, Kathleen was selected for Alpha Lamba Delta, a women’s honorary sor ority and when a senior was a member of Kappa Delta Pl, a national education honorary, in 1966, she was honored with the T. C. Jory award, given annually to the outstanding upper division student enrolled in mathematics. Mrs, Pugh is a member of the Willamette university choir and is among the Willamette Singers. She also served as secretary and song leader for her dormitory. Kathleen is a daughter of Mr. and Mrs, Sherman Keck of the Nu Acres area, and was graduated as valedictorian of her class in 1953 from Fruit land high school. Her husband, Clarence Pugh, teaches vocal and instrumental music in the Harrisburg, Ore., schools. The couple has one daughter, Rebecca. Mrs. Pugh’s parents, the Sherman Kecks, were among those witnessing the Jan. 17 graduation rites at Willamette university. PERSONALS Mr. and Mrs. S. P. Bybee left Jan. 23 to visit their son, Mr. and Mrs. Ray Bybee and family at Brigham City, Utah. After a short visit they left tor Salt I.ak<- ( tty to pi< k up Mr. and Mrs. V. L. Kesler former Nyssa residents and drove to las Vegas, Nev., for two days of seeing shows and shopping, Their next stop was Scottsdale, Aril., to visit an other son, Mr. and Mrs. Garry Bybee. Here they found many interesting little shopes in 'Old Scottsdale* to visit and browse around in. They also, went to many outlying points of interest in the desert area. Tucson was their next stop, to visit Mrr Bybee's slater, Mr. and Mrs Ralph Alvord and daughters. While there they drove to No gales, Mexico, and spent the afternoon In this charming old city. Returning home by way of Brigham City, they attended the Judo Tournament, Saturday morning Feb. 3 at Ogden. Their grandsons, Randy and Craig Froarer and Mark Jensen were contestants. The Bybees re turned home Saturday evening, Feb. 3. • • • Mr. and Mrs. Owen Froerer, daughters, Randy, and Craig drove to Brigham City, Utah, with Mark Jensen to visit her brother, Mr. and Mrs. Ray Bybee and to attend the Judo Tournament at Ogden. Mark Jensen, Randy and Craig were participants in the tournament. They returned home Sunday, Feb. 4. Mrs. Paul House and Paul Jr., of Quincy, Wash., spent Hie weekend of Feb. 3 with Mr. and Mrs. Glenn Marcum, Billy and Sara. Paul Jr., is a stu dent at Washington State uni versity. • • • Mr. and Mrs. J. H. Malloy, Mr. and Mrs. David Beers were Feb. 2 guests of the Tom Dry dales for a waffle supper. The Malloys were Feb. 4 dinner guests of their 'laughter, Mr. and Mrs. Neil Coburn and fam ily of Boise. NEWS ABOUT SERVICEMEN r GARY L THOMPSON Gary L. Thomson, 25, whose parents, Mr. and Mrs. Merle B. Thomson, and wife, Jeannine, live at 409 S. Seventh, Nyssa, was commissioned a second lieutenant upon graduation Jan. 16 from officer candidate school at the Army artillery and mis sill center, Ft. Sill, Okla. Gunnery was the primary subject taught during the 23- week course, designed to pre pare men for officer duties in artillery units. He was also trained in artillery survey and transports, communica tions, map and aerial-photo reading, electronics, counter insurgency and leadership. Mackey celebrated Mrs. Mackey’s birthday anniversary on the evening of Feb. 2 by dining at the Golden Slipper in Vale. Mrs. Florence Gowey and son, Joe of Boise were Jan. 29 dinner guests at the home of tier daughter, Mr. and Mrs. G. E. Mackey. Mrs. Gowey and daughter, Mr. and Mrs. 1 .ester Lydy of Madras were Jan. 30 overnight guests of the Mackey family. Mrs. Gowey then accompanied the Lydys to Madras for an extended visit. Mr. and Mrs. Larry Mackey were also Jan. 30 evening visitors in the G. E. Mackey home. Marion Mills of Boulder, Colo., who was here to attend Jan. 30 funeral services of an aunt, Mrs. Ruby Mills, visited Ross Mills before returning to his home on Feb. 2. Mr. and Mrs. Robert Toomb of Nyssa spent the evening of Feb. 4 with his sister, Mr. and Mrs. Vernon Parker. Mr. and Mrs. W. E. Piercy and Mrs. Berniece Toomb were Feb. 4 dinner guests of Mr. and Mrs. D. L. Hurst at Vale. Mr. and Mrs. K. I. Peterson accompanied Mr. and Mrs. Wally Steiner to Ontario on Feb. 1 when they attended anAmeri- can Legion dinner held at East Side cafe. Mr. and Mrs. K. I. Peterson visited Feb. 4 with Mr. and Mrs. Harvey Bennett. Sgt. Danny Richardson of Klamath Falls was a recent weekend guest of Mr. and Mrs. Bill Willis. On Saturday evening Sgt. Richardson was host at a dinner at the La Paloma cafe in Ontario in honor of Mr. and Mrs. Monty Freel. Another guest was Marsha Willis. After the dinner they attended the movie, "The Bible, In The Beginning." Mr. and Mrs. Wally Steiner and family were Feb. 4 dinner guests of his brother, Mr. and Mrs. Harold Steiner and family at Grandview. Enroute home they visited another brother, Mr. and Mrs. Charles Sterner and family. Mr. and Mrs. Bill Doty of Caldwell visited Jan. 30 at the home of his sister, Mr. and Mrs. Wally Steiner. Feb. 4 visitors in the home of Mr. and Mrs. (George DeHaven were Vicki DeHaven, Mrs. Bruce DeHaven and family, Mr. and Mrs. Larry DeHaven. Mrs. Dan Skerjanec of Jamie son visited Feb. 3 with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. George DeHaven, while her husband attended a National Guard meeting in Boise.
