The charter of Oregon Trail Grange was draped Nov. 4 in memory of Fem P. Runcorn, with Acting Chaplain Clara Somers assisted by Betty Kurtz as Ceres. They were escorted to the charter and to the altar by Stewards Mr. and Mrs. Ernie Metcalf where the chaplain led grange members in the Lord’s Prayer. During the business meeting, Legislative ChairmanFrank Sherwood reported on a change in the welfare program con cerning the search for deserting fathers. He also reported on an article in the Oregon Farmer concerning the licensing of weed spraying on farms. Executive Committee Mem ber Loyd Adams reported on the adverse effect the proposed changes in the paramutual racing fund will have on finances of the Malheur county fair. Retiring Home Economics Chairman Orma Cleaver gave her final report and thanked all members who had served on committees during her several years in office. State Deputy Robert Coble was escorted to the master’s station. He reported on the new workmans compensation law, and Mrs. Coble was welcomed by the group.
