THURSDAY, MAY 18, 1987 THE NYSSA GATE CITY JOURNAL, NYSSA, OREGON Area Girls Take Honors In 'I'rack Meet At EOC By Dale Witt KINGMAN KOLONY----- Mrs. Homer Brewer, Mrs. Klaas Lean and Katie l.aan went to Eastern Oregon College tn La Grande last Thursday to attend the girls' track meet. Louise Brewer and Mary Laan were participants in the event. Mary placed first In the 220 and Louise took honors in long-jump competition. Mary and Louise were both in the 440-relay. Their team placed first, others competing were from Blue Mountain College, Pendleton and Northwest Nazarene Col- leg»- at Nampa. Mary laan spent the weekend with her parents, the Klaas Laans. Mothers' day dinner guests In the Jim Phifer home were Mr. and Mrs. Charles Bowers, Mrs. Hill Toomb, the Marvin Bowers family of Adrian, the Charles C hapin family of Sun set valley, the Richard Calla han family of McCall, Mr. and Mrs. Marvin Wright and daugh ter of Boise. Mr. and Mrs. Earl Kygar and family were Sunday dinner guests of their daughter, Mr, and Mrs. Tom Duncan at On tario. Mr. and Mrs. Dwayne Bennett took Mr. and Mrs. Lawrence Kreager to dinner Sunday at the Smorgasbord In the Moore hotel at Ontario. Gall Strawn of Fruitland spent last week with her grand parents, Mr. and Mrs. lister Strawn. Her sister, Karen is visiting this week with her grandparents. McLing of Albany, Ore., arrived Sat urday to spend a week visiting Mrs. Marie Earp. Mr. and Mrs. Al Thompson were hosts for a family dinner Sunday. Guests were the Me Ling couple, Mrs. Earp, Mrs. and Mrs. Rex Walters of Boise, Mrs. Herb Andrews and children of Cald well, Mrs. Ellis Walters of Nyssa, Mr. and Mrs. Duo Thompson and family, Mr. and Mrs. Herschel Thompson. The Art Sparks and Dale Ashcrafts went to Unity May 10 for several days of camp ing and fishing. They report good luck. Mr. and Mrs. Bruce Pink ston of Parma were May 10 afternoon visitors in the home HAROLD CORFIELD of his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Walter Pinkston. Mrs. Loura HAROLD CORFIELD, son of Smith of Adrian was a Sunday Mrs. Bonnie Province recently dinner guest in the Pinkston enlisted for four years In the home. A rummage sale will be held May 19 and 20 at the Nyssa Methodist church. Next meeting will be June 13 at the Moore hotel, with Dr. Sam Probanz as guest speaker. Cash Donations To Aid Children JAY-C-ETTES TO MEET Malheur County Members of the Jay-C-Ettes PTA Installa will meet at 8 p.m., Tuesday, May 23 In the home of Mrs. Marsh, 525 North 2nd New President John St. This will be an Informal Mrs. Lloyd Johnson, past president of Malheur County PTA Council, installed newly elected officers at the May 9 meeting held at May Roberts Elementary School in Ontario. Mrs. Johnson was assisted with the Installation ceremony by Mrs. Loren Munn, Mrs. Robert Peterson, and Mrs. Silas Shaw, members of the Pioneer PTA Unit. Homework, school social functions, and various phases of parent-teacher-school rela tionships were discussed by Mrs. Dee Garner, Mrs. Delpha Hammerly, Mrs. Leland Deal, Dr. Kenneth Pfaff. Questions were also introduced by mem bers of the audience. Mrs. Ken neth Goul served as moderator. Mr. and Mrs. George Higgan botham of Denver, Colo., were house guests of Mr. and Mrs. Dwight Seward this past week. Mrs. Higganbotham is a sister of Mrs. Ethel Wild of Nyssa. May 9 Mrs. Seward enter tained with dinner for Mr. and Mrs. Higganbotham, Mr. and Mrs. Roy Wild and Ethel Wild. The Higganbothams left Satur day for Salem, Ore. Mrs. Rex Nichols, PTA President gave a welcom ing address and Invited the children to school next fall, to the last day of school picnic on June 1st. Mr. Reynoldson gave a talk on "ChildGuidance”. Mrs. Tom Takatori, the school nurse, told about the immunization program and the preschool check up by a doctor for all new first graders. Mrs. Hazel Ferguson explained the school routine and Mrs. Dorothy Mason was hostess and Mrs. Arlene Seward helped her with enter tainment. Mr. and Mrs. Don Haley of Boise are the parents of a baby boy, Donnie Dale. She will be remembered as Cheryl Wilson, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Wood row Wilson who formerly lived in Apple Valley. The Apple Valley sixth grad ers went to Parma Friday for their first day of Junior High school. The second, third, fourth and fifth graders were taken by bus to the Nyssa park where they enjoyed a picnic. Mrs. Haney, Mrs. Norma Nel son and Helen Seward helped with the picnic. Mrs. Martha Norland's child ren entertained her on her birthday anniversary on the evening of May 10.
