X Teamwork Nets Two Wins for NHS Bulldogs as Hoop Season Nears End Two wins were on the hoop agenda last weekend for the NHS Bulldogs as they downed the Val- livue Falcons Friday evening with a 54-40 final tally, and on Satur day evening took a 51-41 victory from the Payette Pirates The local hoopsters led the Fri day evening scoring all the way, however at the end of the first half, the Falcons were crowding and the score stood 22-21. The Nyssa lads then began moving ahead to take the win on their home court. Anielone Game Prore°ds fo Aid March o* Dimes The Antelopes of Adrian suf fered two losses last weekend in hoop conflicts against the Mid dleton Vikings and the Burnt Riv er lads. Their Friday evening game on the Middleton floor ended with a 67-49 victory for the Vikings, leaders of the SRV-B league, northern division. After being held to a tie until halftime, the Middleton lads pull ed forward, with Scaggs. Hopkins, Turnbull and Tamura sinking 42 of the Vikings 67 points. Ben Conklin of Adrian took scoring honors for the evening by tossing 14 counters into the cir cles. Other Antelope markers were added by Tim Tailman. 10; Tim Holly. 6; Don Beebe. 8: Sloan. 4; Steve Kriegh. 3: Alan Zikmund and Glaze. 2 each. The Adrian youths lost by a close 66-61 final score in overtime play Saturday evening on the Burnt River hardwood. Arriola of the host squad took scoring hon ors with 30 points, followed close ly by Antelope Con',1;n -—»th 27. There are two parnés -•’’I ~n the Antelope's basketball schedule for the season. Friday evening they will host the Parma Panthers, and all proceeds will be given to the March of Dimes. Saturday evening the Adrian lads will invade the Kuna Kaves. Top-scoring Bulldogs were Dick Finger, 15; Tom Moore, 12 and Danny Wilson. 11. Other NHS counters were tossed through the hoops by Brad Maxfield. 8; Gary Ross. 4; Paul House and Bill Kouns, 2 each. Ron Dines was high scorer for the Falcon squad Coach Aldrich’s Bulldogs con tinued their scoring teamwork Saturday evening on the Payette hardwood to take their second consecutive victory by downing the Pirates. The NHS lads held a 35 per cent record for field goals and hit 19 baskets from the charity stripe. Maxfield took scoring honors with 15 counters, followed by Moore. 14: Finger. 12; Wilson 6 and Ross. 4. Meridian Cinches Title Nyssa now holds a three win. ten loss SRV-A record. The Meri dian Warriers have cinched the league championship with a 14-1 tally, beaten only by the Weiser Wolverines who are next in line with a 9-3 record. Only one game is on tap for the Bulldogs this weekend when they will travel to Emmett Satur day evening to tangle with the Huskies. The following w e e k. with home games against Weiser and Vale, will end the basketball season for the local team. With a 24-9 final score, the On tario hi eh mat men overpowered the NHS grapplers las’ Thursday evening on the Tigers’ mats. Terry Pierce. Ralph Estrada and Darr Jensen won their bouts by decision with Widmer losing his match by a pin. Losing on decisions were Chip Burningham. Richard Parra. Bob Church, Darryl King. Dan Maros- tica, Fred Esplín. Jim Ableman and Rodney Blaylock. The Ontario Tigers picked up added points with Nyssa forfeit ing in the upper weight division.
