OREGON GRANDSON OF NY8SANS INJURED IN VIET NAM Mr. and Mrs. C. T. Blackburn recently received word that a grandson, Rdbert Lee Boren, had been injured for the third time in Viet Nam. His parents are their son - in - luw and daughter, Ernest and Fernella Boren of Cortex, Colo. Mrs. Blackburn reports that two different times he suffered head injuries and the most recent oc curred late in February when he wus hit by a rifle grenade. The Blackburns have not heard re cently as to his condition. The.r daughter, Fernella Boren, left lute last week for her home in Colorado after spending a week visiting them and other relatives in the area. Church Ladies Serve 16th Annual Dinner For Factory Workers LINDA MORRISON NAMED TO DEANS LIST AT TACOMA Miss Linda Morrison was one of 251 students named to the dean’s list for the first semester of the 1965-86 academic year at Pacific Lutheran university in Tacoma, Wash. Linda is a daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Cecil Morrison Jr. of Nyssa, was valedictorian of the 1965 NHS graduating class and is a PLU freshman majoring in pre med. Announcement of Miss Morri son’s achievement was made by Dr. Thomas Langevin, academic vice president. He reported that students must attain a 3.3 grade point average or better on a 4 0 system to be selected for the dean's roster. The 16th annual banquet for Amalgamated Sugar company em ployees, their wives and/or hus bands, and retired factory work ers was held Saturday evening at the Nyssa school cafetorium. Tom Seppich of Ogden, master of ceremonies for the evening, was introduced by Nyssan Stan Newman. Entertainment was pro vided by Linda Ballou, who pre sented vocal selections; the Basque dancers from Ontario and Magician Rolf Usenko General chairmen for the event were Wilbur Anderson and Orson Leavitt. PAGE THREE Mrs. Tom Takatori Reported as Winner In Speech Contest Mrs. Tom Takatori was declar ed winner of the Treasure Valley Toastmistress club’s annual speech contest held March 4 in Parma. Title of the winning talk was "Reaffirmation of Faith.” Mrs. Takatori will represent the club at the Council 8 speech contest, to be held during April at Nampa Next regular meeting of the club will be Friday evening, April ' 18, at the IOOF hall in Parma. A special ceremony will be held for Mrs. Carol Collins who has just joined the club. The program will also include four ‘ ice - breaker” speeches by Mmes. Michael Scnma, Merrill Tailman, Mildred Brown and Carol Collins, all of whom are new members. Reservations for this meeting may be made by contacting Mrs. Donald Walker at Parma. SENIOR CITIZENS SLATE APRIL • POTLUCK DINNER Senior citizens meeting was held Friday at Nyssa Methodist church, and the group voted to skip the March 25 session as the meeting room will be in use by women of the church. Next meeting of the club will be April 8 when members will take food for a potluck dinner at the Methodist church. A birthday cake will be provided for those having anniversaries in January, February and March.
