Spanish Shows Wednesday, May 26 — NO SHOW Thursday, May 27 — Spanish Shows The Senate rejected this partisan proposal and in its place supported an unacceptable plan, which was rejected almost unani mously in the House of Repre- sentatives. Because of this impasse and because of the importance of the issue, Governor Mark Hatfield has called a special session of the legislature to convene on May 21 for the purpose of attacking again this knotty problem. The governor will propose a compromise plan hopefully ac ceptable to all involved. This ac tion will necessitate my continued stay in Salem until some agree ment can be reached. I shall continue to fight to re tain for two-thirds of the state of Oregon, that being the eastern portion, representation in the congress by one who knows and understands our problems. A near-capacity crowd was in attendance at the Nyssa Women’s Bowling association banquet held Saturday evening at East Side cafe in Ontario. Mtss Karma Kesler, association secretary, served as mistress of ceremonies and was assisted in presenting tournament awards by Mrs. Paul House, association pres ident. Other trophies and awards were presented to sponsors and bowlers by the various league officers. League and city association tro phy winners will be published in subsequent issues of the Journal. TRIO SUFFERS INJURIES IN TWO-CAR COLLISION Mrs. Leo Claudine Bear, 87- year-old Nyssa resident, was ad mitted to Malheur Memorial hos pital Wednesday evening. May 12. suffering with a broken shoulder. Mrs. Bear sustained the injury when the vehicle in which she was riding was involved in a two-car collision on highway 20. a mile north of Nyssa. Her husband, George N. Bear, sustained cuts and bruises about the head. Norman F. Hipp, for mer Nyssan now residing in On tario, sustained head cuts. Both cars were extensively damaged, according to an Oregon State* police report. Mrs. Bear remained hospitaliz ed overnight while both men were treated for their injuries and released. TREATED AT HOSPITAL Delores Fisher of Parma was treated Saturday at Malheur Me morial hospital for a lacerated finger tip. She sustained the in jury in a lawnmower mishap. John Reeves of Nyssa was giv en emergency treatment Monday for contusions of the right cheek. He was injured while on duty at a local gasoline plant.
